And on a different note:

1994 Kawasaki ZX-9R - 11.5 (No class given)

is considered a relative slug compared to more modern bikes. The more modern bikes have less weight, more HP, more TQ, and better brakes.

They bashed the Z06 several times in the article, even tho it wasn't part of the test... what's up with that?

BTW, as a self confessed "car" guy, that is one Benz that would be a blast to own - if only I had an extra $70 large laying around...

I own a supercharged C5(over 500RWHP) and just got an 03 E55. My cousin (who lives in the same neighborhood as me) owns an 01 Z-06. He has a Blackwing and exhaust on it so it should be at least as fast as the '02 if not faster. We have raced both of my cars against his Z-06. I know it runs strong because in fifth gear it is about even with my car (due to a ~300rpm advantage) in the 300-3500 range. The runs we had with the E55 against the Z-06 were quite impromptu, but what I noticed was that while he was in third the E55 was noticeably pulling him. First and second were a little more even but the E55 still seemed to have a bit of advantage. I am talking about in gear performance. I was gaining 1/4 to 1/2 car length additional every time he shifted. What I am saying is that even with no shift time at all, the E55 still, if anything, had a bit of advantage. Based on my experience, I would say that the Z-06 probably would have run even with or just ahead of the E55 due to a couple of tenths gained in braking. That would have put it a second behind the two sports cars. However, what is not mentioned there or here, is that you could supercharge a Z-06 for under 10k and it would blow all those cars away and cost significantly less than the cheapest car in that test.
The 2002+ Z06 is quicker than both the 469HP E55 AMG and 493HP SL55 AMG, both 0-60 and 1/4 mile. However, the cars are very close, and driving an auto is easier than a 6-speed. The AMG's are beautiful cars.

Just how many corners do you want to put in a 0-100-0 test?

But:

The more modern R1, BlackBird, Hyabusa, and ZX-12s will outrun a 9 year old ZX-9R basically anywhere in a straight line. In the road race class, the R1, Suzuki 750, Ducati 999, Aprilla,... will also outrun a 9 year old ZX-9R anywhere there are curves. This says nothing about what an awesome bike it was in 1994, it says that bike technology is moving at a very rapid pace.

Only because no one has so far, I though I would mention that the Z06 was part of the MT High Speed Shootout...the figures ViperSRT is referring to. The Z06 managed 13.92 in the 0-100-0 test. You will find the figures from the other tests in this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zero...=548452&page=3

This hypothetically places it just behind the Viper, as you would expect, and in front of the 575M, as one would also expect if you believe the MT results. One should never forget the price of the Z06. Corvette owner or not...please let me know a car that will out-perform the Z06 for the money. It's all relative, and simply cannot be argued! :chevy

Default Re: 0-100 and back (The DBK)

I think Motor Trend never actually finished those tests but rather used extrapolated points on a graph of what it should run. These days, I never believe any magazine tests because most of them apply all these correction factors and run them in totally different conditions so they aren't reliable at all. The only times I believe are the head to head comparos where they actually run the cars 1 on 1. None of this goofy "well based on the first 100mph..." crap...
I agree, the mags know that 99% of their readers don't care if the times are accurate, and to cut costs, they do NOT test the cars well. How many articles have you read where "the test was cut short due to weather?" We are talking about mags with 3 month lead times and they can't schedule another day at the track to DO WHAT THEY DO as a business. Can you imagine if most of us ran our businesses that way?

We don't demand any better of them, so ultimately I guess we are responsible. I refuse to buy their garbage.

I'm sure this all sounds like sour grapes, but I wouldn't be upset if they responsibly tested the Z06 and then reported the results and the Z06 didn't do well, but they didn't even test it.

There are exotics on the list, but compared to an awful lot of stock cars, I can't BELIEVE that the Z06 would not post a respectable time.

The car stops very nearly as short as anything you can buy from 60mph. Take a look at a few 1000 foot mark time slips here on the forum and you can figure very close to the 0-100 time and I just don't see how the car wouldn't be competitive in this contest. I call :bs

A lot of you guys are missing a possible intended consequence of 'calling out' the Z06. GM engineers working on the C6 are going to be even more pissed that luxury GERMAN sedans are nearly, if not as, quick as a Z06. They will be resolving this issues shortly, mark my words.

I am not too happy with the Road & Track results. But to be fair they stated right up front the only the top 2 cars in each class would be included. That means #3 was excluded in each class. I do not know how they drew the lines around each class, especially between the sports car class and the Grand Tourers. But they put the Corvette in with the twin turbo 911 and the Viper SRT. As they only chose the top 2 based on their own previous tests they chose the Porsche and Viper. Not a big deal. But why did the Ferrari 360 go in the Grand Touring class? Because it would not have been in the top 2 positions in the sports car class. Got to keep the gawk factor in the magazines.

The Porsche $134,080, not 180K. Still a lot of money though.

Maybe the "General" will step up to the plate and finally put a big block in the Z06 like they should have years ago.

The Ferrari 360 was not tested at all because, like the Z-06, It was not fast enough.

I'm not some guy that owns a Mercedes and doesn't know much about vettes. I have a C-5 that has over 520 RWHP. Is someone really going to tell me that a run in 01 with bolt ons will not keep up with a green 03? Again, I can tell you from experience, that the benz is, if anything, quicker. I am not taking results from Motor Trend and comparing them to some other results I found in Car and Driver. I am talking about what happens when you put down the magazine and race the cars. I am not bashing the Vette, either(again, I have one in my garage). I come from the camp of hoping GM wakes up and makes the C6 nicer.

well john you are taking the 0-60 numbers of the E55 from the R&T and are taking the Z06 numbers from some other source. According to R&T Z06 does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds :)

The results from the M/T test were the 0-100 time pieced together with the 100-0 time. In the R/T test they kept accelerating until the cars broke 100MPH. Due to this the cars actually went 103-104 MPH. Then there was about 7 tenths of transition from gas to brake and then braking. If you attempted to extrapolate R/T results for the Z-06 from the M/T test, you would have to add a couple tenths for the overage of MPH. 103 is 3% more and the cars accelerated in about ten seconds so add .3sec. Then add .7sec for the transition. Then add .1sec for the extra braking and you get a result of 15.02 sec. You really can't compare results from different locations and different testers though.

How could you possibly agree with the post when you don't own either car? In addition pretty much everyone in this section knows that you are not a big fan of the Z06 (for dubious reasons), although you do seem to post quite a bit in this section..

FWIW at the past Corvette Challenge a super mint low mileage 95 ZR-1 with a Borla exhaust and a K&N airfilter was running 13.1s and 13.2 @ 110 MPH with a 2.1 60' time. I ran 12.5s @ 116 MPH with just an airbox mod and the same 2.1 60' time. Temp was mid 80s, super humid, DA of about 2500 ft. The air was not very good.

Rbartick,
Do you own everything that you discuss or talk about? My POINT was that I agreed with his very logical and fact based reply to the topic. If you don't like it,I really could care less. The facts are that R&T opted NOT to include the Z06 because THEY SAID IT WAS TOO SLOW FOR THE TEST! And I don't think R&T OWNS every car that they test,so using your logic they don't know what they are talking about! Yeah right!
Does logic apply to your thinking? And just so you'll know I was ALSO
disappointed that the Z06 was not included.I personally think it would have
made a good showing.

Now if they would have just had a catagory for "Value based sports cars", the Z06 would have one hands down. It surely wouyld have beat the 350Z....
