i own an 02 Z06. last week the bells sounded four times. i looked at the temperature gauge and it was all the way over to 260 (both red lines). i stopped, opened the hood and everything seemed fine. no boiling over, no fans on. nothing seemed wrong except the dic and the gauge. next day i took it in the dealer. they kept it two days, drove it 18 miles and tried to duplicate the problem but could find nothing. has anyone else had this problem? the dealer said they have not seen this before. need help. Sounds like the ECT sensor or wiring and connectors.
Did you get any DTC codes?
DTC 0117, 0118 or 0125 usually show up when it's the ECT sensor.
My neighbor has a C5 convertable that pinged the temp gage once a week for about a month. I changed the ECT sensor and she hasn't had a problem in over a year. I noticed her coolant was green and was supposed to be orange. Yikes!
My 01 Z06 had a harness problem that caused temp and charge (GEN H) errors. The wiring at the back of the engine intake was tightly wrapped, under tension and subjet to high temps causing the wires to drift out of their casing at a bend and touch at two different points. Took me two months to track that one down since they were intermittent.
If it happens again, record and post the codes or IM me and I'll look up the flow chart and send it to you...
