I found a 01- Z06 with the following:
Torch Red with Black interior (red seat inserts) and red on doors
4500 miles .... Car has been in the garage a long time.
Only service performed was it's first oil change at the dealer.
Elect. mirrors, side mouldings, floor mats.
The car smells and looks brand new. It also ran quite well on the test drive.
The guy is asking 35,000 for it. He may go down to 34,000 if I'm lucky.
Is this a fair price for a 2001 Z06?
Should I look for a 2002 and up Z06 because of the potential ring problem?
Will this car hold it's value?
I thank you in advance for any info you may provide. Tom S.

Re: HOW MUCH FOR 01-Z06?
Yes, sounds like a good price.
No, it probably won't hold value. It's a car, and almost all cars loose value. Will it hold its value better than a Hyundai, yes. Will it hold its value better than an 02 Z06, probably not but then it probably won't loose value any faster either. The 01s were the first year of the z06 for the C5, so if any Z06 is going to hold value better I'd expect it to be the first year or last year.
If the rings haven't been replaced the car will burn oil. With that mileage though, it's still under warranty so you can have it fixed for free.
Price sounds about right. I got my '01 for $34,000 wiht 11,000 miles. In the past 4000 miles it's burnt 1.5 quarts of oil... not too bad for such a fast car. Looser engines are faster
Sounds like a good price, although the mod red interiors were selling more slowly on new cars and maybe don't hold their values as well as plain black, although the combination of the economy, the ring problems and the extra hp in 02 has pretty much killed the value of 01 Z06's.
As far as the ring issue goes, my 01 uses a quart every 1500 miles. If that get's you all jacked up, you'd better not buy an 01 because the dealers won't replace the rings with that kind of oil consumption. Me? I'm just driving it and enjoying it.
I'd just like to say I love my mod-red interior, I don't see burning oil as a problem in my late model-year '01 ZO6, and it's better to pay $35K for a car and watch the value evaporate every month than pay $50K for one and watch it evaporate.
You'll drive yourself crazy worrying about the depreciation. Make the decision and run with it!
They will all drop significantly in value when the C6 comes out. And when the C6 Z06 comes out, they will even dive further. Remember the C4? Most the the LT1s dropped a bunch with the C5 debut. Even the mighty LT4 from '96 took a dive by '98-'99 model years. I plan on keeping my '01 Z06 for a long time (5+ years) so I'm don't care much about depreciation. However, if you're planning on selling it in 2-3 years and getting a C6, just save your money and wait or you'll take it in the shorts. :(
