Pulled the Z out of the garage this afternoon and found the dreaded spots on the floor. 4200 miles on the beast and it's leaking already!!!!! :mad :mad :banghead: :banghead: Hopefully the dealership has the talent to do it right the first time. Anyone have any info on GM's efforts in preventing this in the future?
this is a easy fix I had mine do same with 8500 miles took to dealer and they fix it with no problem >But i was not to happy taken it to dealer if you know what i mean>>
No sweat!! Many of the C5s have developed leaks particularly at the driver side half axle. Mine was leaking at 10k. Warranty repair was easy and now I have 22k and no leaks. :) :)
mine looked like it had a few drops around the rear cover when i was under there putting on the stingers-- i'll have to make an appointement to have it looked at-- AARGH! i'd rather not take it to the dealer too, but i guess if it's under warranty 'n all.... :(
Well, don't hold your breath. They will repair it with the same part so it will become a chronic condition.
I had it done twice on my 99 during first 30K miles.
Called to set up an appointment this morning and talked with the service rep and the service manager. Their response...."we haven't heard about any ongoing problem with this but bring it in and we'll fix it". And this is a dealership owned by a true 'Vette enthusiast in Wisconsin.
You must've called a Ford dealer! Mine was leaking big time--they took the entire transaxle apart and replaced every friggin' seal. Great to know it will happen all over again someday. GM...are you paying ANY attention?
When I was changing the engine oil I found grease (not oil) all over the passenger side rear axle. This wouldn't be the differential leaking right, since it's on only one side of the car and it's grease and not oil? :chevy
I think that might be normal if you car is relativly new. They tend to overfill it with grease form the factory.

Peter,
I hope your right!! The only thing is that it's a considerable amount of grease and it's all over place. I have an appointment at the Dealer on Thursday, so I will hope to find out then.
If in deed you have the problem I think you have, there is a tiny o-ring between the G-tag & diff. It appears to be a quality control issue during assembly. The entire rear suspension assembly drops away, leaving the breaking system hanging, and unopened. The Z06 will require a four wheel alignment after the work is done. The dealers are so sure that it is not required due to the cone shaped locator pins during reassembly. Don't listen to them if the assembly has to be removed. They also must have one of the newest Hunters available to perform the alignment, because of the new style Z06 rims. Now don't believe everything you read, this is coming from a dealer named Todey. Also if this work is performed, you will probably get ABS and Traction warning readouts displayed on the onboard readout. You can clear this by hitting the options button three times or four times in a row, I can’t remember which one, and then hit reset. It then could return, and require assistance from the dealer. Good luck, slong
