Default Clutch/Shifter Problems--Ideas?

Got to Etown at 9:15 AM intending to run both events.1st two runs in the time trials were back to back. Each time as I went to turn around at the
end of the strip, the clutch felt funny, not smooth, sort of jerky. It
seemed OK from that point on.Decided 96 F was too hot and that maybe the slave cylinder hydraulic fluid needed to cool down.Waited 1/2 hour and tried again.Everything felt great till I went to grab 4th gear.Nada! The shifter wouldn't move.Didn't feel like I was missing the gate so I decided to call it a day.On the way home, everything felt fine.Ran it up through the gears,
no problem.
Any suggestions,ideas,etc.?

Standard issue clutch problem.

The clutch is very marginal for drag racing. After tearing up a transmission and installing a new stock clutch, my car poopieed very nicely, just like new.

I used to powershift my way down the track. Now I powershift 2nd and quickshift 3rd and 4th. These are not slow shifts but I do lift my foot off the gas for 3rd and 4th. Second gear has double syncro's. 3rd & 4th have one each. So far I have found this to work pretty well. The only time I have had any grinding is when I tried to powershift 3rd at Etown this weekend.

My theory on this has to do with heat build up. Powershifting 2nd works for two reasons. Double syncro's and heat in the hydraulic line has not reached the point where the clutch is impaired. By the 2nd to 3rd shift, the heat is beginning to have an effect. 3rd to 4th the heat has definitly reached the point
that the clutch action is marginal. After the run, the clutch feels terrible when I put it in to downshift as I turn on to the return road. Usually, I pump the clutch in and out 4 or 5 times before I downshift so it won't grind. Pumping returns it to a normal feel. The next thing that will happen is the clutch will stick to the floor.

My clutch felt grabby this weekend also. I am officially blaming it for red-lighting in the first round both in the morningand evening! :D

And it's a great theory also! I had this problem in my 01, had the clutch replaced. Then it started happening in my 02. Went with a McLeod clutch and no problems in 3,000 miles!!
So that's what happened to ya Steve!! :nonod:
