Wondering what the concensus is on which is the best exhaust mod for my ZO6. Opinions appreciated....knowing they will biased as to who owns which one, LOL.
I am also about to get a new exhaust. At Bloomington Gold I was parking the car and a guy next to me was just leaving. I noticed his exhaust and asked him what it was (Corsa) and to give me a sound test. I later went to the Borla booth and he had a car there with the stinger 4 tip model. The borla was much better sounding to me. I dont know what model Corsa the guy had though. The Borla sounded more aggressive and deaper, but not over the top. I am getting the Stinger.
If you want just "a little' more sound, go with the Corsa. If you want to be billy-badbutt at every stoplight, its Borla. I have quad-tip Stingers on my '01 Z, and they have surely improved my fuel economy: all those little ricers ("suicide revvers" I call them) are leaving me alone now when they get a load of these decibels!
The Corsa has a better fit & finish from what I understand of the two exhaust systems. They are a certified GM part as well if that matters. But, on some cars they can have a little bit of a "motor boat" sound at idle. On my ZO6 they don't at all. There is no give-away noise or weird sound as some people might tell you. However, on my buddies auto C5 (SBKim) they do. Yes, the Pace has quite a roar at WOT. It is loud and will get attention in traffic versus the stock exhaust.
The Borlas are loud. Much louder than the Corsa Pace. Many people love them, but some installers don't like to install them because of fit issues. It's not that they won't fit, it's that they have to sometimes be made to fit and align properly.
Both are good systems. You can't lose with either one. But check with your installer prior to showing up with the box in the trunk.
I installed Borla Stingers my self with no problems. I did not like the poping from the stock "H" pipe and installed the Corsa "X" pipe with no problems. The Stingers do stop the Hondas et al from trying to race you at a traffic light.
i've used both...had a corsa pace system on my 99 c5, sounded throaty on idle and growled on throttle, but was still quiet enough to hear the radio and not have every ricer pull up to you at a stoplight and ask to hear you rev it....
i now have a borla xr-1 system on my 02 z06. it's much much louder on throttle and definatly lets the cops know your coming...of course that is what i was going for, but you may want to consider everything before choosing...
i like the new tigershark catback from borla. this may be the best comprimise of both worlds....-evil :reddevil
I have Corsas on my coupe, and I've NEVER gotten a compliment for them. I don't know how much longer I'm willing to wait for the GHL GP to start. I'm favoring the GHL over the Borlas, just because they're a little quieter and not as likely to resonate. I'm somewhat dissatisfied with the quality of the Corsa sound. Corsa offers some of the best looking setups out there, but the sound from them is anemic.
In the two years I've had my Vette, I remember two unsolicited comments from co-workers who are friendly enough to be brutal and honest. Neither of these guys are "car guys". One said, "Your car sounds...weird. What did you do to it? It sounds like an outboard motor." On a separate occassion, another said, "I hate to say it, but your car doesn't sound that good. Not like your other car."
I have a Borla on my Camaro, and it has gotten me plenty of thumbs up and positive comments from friends and strangers. I remember a guy on a bicycle yelling, "Sounds GOOOOD, bro!" as he pedalled past in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Once a homeless guy (to whom I declined giving money) said, "Okay, God Bless, by the way, you have a nice sounding car."
In the end, you only have to please yourself. I thought I wanted a refined exotic sound for my Vette, but I was wrong, and the thing that really kills me is that other people that aren't car enthusiasts actually think it sounds bad, too!
The Batman sums it up well. The Corsas seem to have a pingy sound, while the stingers have a deeper, more rumbly sound. The Borlas rule at WOT too. I find Corsas have excellent fit/finish and bolt up very quickly - BUT - the sound is definitely questionable!! Go with the Borlas, as long as you don't mind some resonance issues. Go Corsa to have Zero resonance. :seeya
My dad has Corsa Indy's and the Z06 I bought the previous owner installed Stingers on mine. I think they sound almost identical full open. But I noticte my Borla's have the same lower note at low RPMs as there is at high RPM's. were as the Corsa's have a slighltly higher note and a more "garglely" sound to them at lower RPM's. One It may be my imagination but the borlas pop more when you release the throttle when reving.
In my view from extensively hearing both I come to the conclusion you will enjoy the sound of either system. I was once deadset on putting the Corsa's on any vette I bought, but I feal the Borla's give me the same satisfaction as if I were using the Corsa. I guess it all depends on what sound you going for. But I rate them both equally, I would be happy with either.
Be forewarned that if you go LT headers and delete the cats with a head/cam setup any system will be obnoxiously loud, ask me how I know. I went this route and had the Corsa Titanium system, while this system was louder than the stock setup on my stock engine, when I did the above it then sounded like a Winston Cup stock car. I now have the stock Ti mufflers back on and its still loud and mean sounding. Keep your future plans for mods in mind when contemplating and/or choosing an aftermarket exhaust.
I have no own experience with the Borlas or the Corsas touring/pace but I have the Corsa Z series (titanium) Competition system. It weighs 17.5 lbs less than the stock titanium system and it is loud but not as loud as other systems without rear mufflers and it does not have the 'motor boat' idle sound. The looks and fitment are perfect.
If you want to quiet them down you only buy the titanium mufflers and get a 'street' system and still have 10.7lbs less weight compared to the stock titanium system.
In my opinion Corsa Z-series competition sounds better when comparing to a friends car with stingers. Maybe it's not a fare compare because I have a 427' and he have a stock engine with completely different sounds to begin with :skep:
What about B&B PRT's? I have a set of the B&B's with the 4 corsa style tips to go along with my LG headers, RT Metal Matrix cats and LG x pipe for my '03 Z06.
