Default WHICH CAR WOULD YOU BUILD?

Recently I have had a bad case of mod fever. I refuse to spend more than $15k on engine work and I want a beast. Here are my options. I can send the GTS to Heffners performance and get 750rwhp on pump gas(93 octne) and no nitrous, or I can sent the z to someone and get the motor built with forced induction that I'm guessing would put me in the 550-650whp range. I feel that the GTS would probably do a better job of putting those power levels to the ground. I also feel that the GTS will age more gracefully meaning it won't look like an old car for a while if ever vs. the c5 body which may soon become outdated by the c6 body. I am leaning toward building the GTS but I wanted some input. Thanks.

My dad has a 776rwhp Viper it is horrible at putting the power to the ground. The vette will be faster with less hp, but like you said the vette is a dime a dozen. Tough choice, good luck :steering:

You should be able to do more than just a forced induction upgrade with 15K.

Sounds to me like you've already made the decision - in your post you stated two or three reasons why you want to mod the Viper - so enjoy modding the Viper!! :seeya

The car would be driven back and forth to work every once in a while with the occasional street race. I don't track my cars very often so I don't think that comes into play.

I want the power to be there all the time(no n2o) so how much every day power does 15k buy in a vette these days?

H&C is about 7 and a real motor with C5R block is about 25,000. Either way you won't be near 750

if you just want to go fast in a straight line
I would build up a camaro, firebird, or mustang.

building up a vette/viper to be some power monger drag queen is a waste of a capable suspension.

Maybe so but the looks have to go with the power. Would you like to drive a mustang around all day? :lolg:

I'd build the Z. The Viper being more exclusive and collectable will be worth more stock. I wouldn't mess with it if it were mine except for bolt-ons.

Gary, For the way you seem to use you cars, and the need thay seem to fill for you(JMO), sell them ALL, and get an AMG twin turbo V12, automatic. Vipper+Vette+15k might not cover it but the payment will be small.;) How about a PVO Pacifica with a Vipper V10. Hopeing your sence of humer is working today. :p: Ric

Ric,
 :smash: I would love to have a SL65 when they come to the states. We will all have something to be worried about then. I think a MB would be a little too cicilized for me though. Plus you would only be able to get around 550rwhp out of one I would guess. Speaking of Chrysler, I saw one of those new Crossfires the other night. It was black and it looked good!! Have you seen one yet?

I would build a FRC with the GTS back glass (I'm not awind in the hair kind of guy) and complete Z06 engine, tranny, suspension, wheels, tires. GM has all the parts......but we've been there before....

I hear there is nothing like a SC Z. To bad you are not in the NE since ECS does great work with the SC's. There are also some cartek head/cam vettes doing 10's all day long that are very streetable. Either route is well under 15.

that is so true.

for the cash, i would build the schitt out of a late 60's-70's big block.

of course, a vette with that power is sweet but for half the price and having huge balzz, i'd probably build up an oldie.

and then keep a nice capable vette for cruisin around town.

I don't know who you guys are taking your cars to for a H/C package that it's running you $7k. I know a guy that's done a Z06 H/C, Headers, Tune, and install for ~$5k. If I do a cam, I intend to do it myself and save the hassle, same with headers. So, depending on the headers I want, ~$2600-2800 installed by self...and then a tune which goes for about $400. I'd do the heads, but for some reason, my better judgement tells me to not push my luck like I did my Mustang (a bad, bad experience with a Vortech, and tuners...which I will never pay to do a mod again, better to learn and do it right myself). Heads wouldn't put that much more stress on anything, but, I'd like to be able to swap in the stock stuff if it ever does come to selling the vehicle.

Do the Z06 imo, but...Then again, I'm not a Viper fan at all, especially when guys around my area act like they're gods in them and snub their noses at my Z06. Find a respectable machine shop, order the parts yourself for a 427 or 436, and have them build it for you. Install yourself. Trailer to a tuner... :yesnod: That's fun.

I'd say you're actually throwing your money away if all you want to do is street race. Who are you trying to impress?

Buy another car, and make it your trailer vehicle. Set it up for road racing or drag racing, whichever you prefer...and there you go. You now have a race car, which is apparently what you want for the street anyways, but now you'll at least have a place to use it...The Track.

I don't understand why the occassional ride to/fro work, and a street race requires 600rw. Not to sound like everyone's mother here, but you can upgrade without going too far.
