Default 2004 Shocks for Z06

Considering replacing the factory shocks on my 03 Z06 with 04 Z06 shocks. Has any one out there done this and if so are you happy with the results? :)

A buddy and I took out our z06's for some back to back testing (he has an '02, I have an '04) on a good sampling of road conditions. Twisties, ess curves, corners, bumpy / rippled freeway access roads, bumpy clovers, etc..

Anyways.. we both agreed that the '04 shocks felt significantly better and tighter.. and the car was more buttoned down, especially with respect to midcorner bumps.

Definitely a good upgrade. I don't know if I talked him out of getting the Penske's.. but at least now he's considering the 04's...

I read somewhere that, not only is the shock valving different but the tuning of the transverse leaf spring is also different to match the new shock tuning...

Anyone know if that is the case? And if the shocks are truly the only difference, anyone know what a set of 04 shocks would set you back?

CorvettePartsBob from Fichtner Chevrolet posted that the only difference he found in the 04 suspension part #s is the shocks.

Only a 100 miles since installing 04 shocks--but a poitive improvement.

Excellent! What do those run? And here is a stupid question: do you need to replace all four or is it just the rears that are different?

Z11409 and Andi, what effect do the shocks have on the ride during normal street use?

Car feels stiffer all the way around--pulled a couple hard decreaeing radius turns today--less body lean in front and less nose dive on hard braking.Car is 80% track and 20% street so I will be more aware of difference after a couple hot laps.

Slightly stiffer ride, and more controlled / less floaty over whoops/undulations in the road......

Thanks for the insights, guys. Keeping it buttoned down better over undulations is a major step forward.

I have read that there are other changes. It woulden't be the first time GM made slight rate changes in spring and bushings and kept the same part numbers, to control inventory. But I don't know if thats the case this time. Ric

Here are the prices posted in Ken's newsletter.

2004 Z06 SUSPENSION INFORMATION

I have checked the parts computer, and the springs and bars are the same parts as the 2003 system. The only different parts I can find at this time are the shocks. According to GM the valving is different in the 04 shocks to stiffen them up more. They are just now coming available in a very limited supply. If you are wanting the new Z06 shock the fronts list for 135.00 ea and cost will be 94.50 ea. The rears list for 158.48 ea and cost will be 110.94. Again these are very limited supply, so if you want the latest shocks get your order in soon.
