Default 01 - Shock Replacment options

My 01 Z is about to Click off 35k and I am going to start looking at options for some new shocks. Here is what i am looking at

1. Stock replacements

2. 04 shocks (valving is updated per my understanding)

3. Coilovers

4. Full T1 suspension system

At this time the car is daily driven but will be retired this fall to a weekend/nice weather car so if I go with something real stiff it won't be a giant problem. I just want the best bang for the buck handling so at this point I am leaning towards a good coilover system..

All suggestions are appreciated!!!

I want to do the same thing by the spring. I'll be watching how people like the 04 Z06 setup and go with that.

If you want best bang for the buck, then the 04 shocks are definitely the way to go. I've heard of at least one instance where an 04 Z was able to keep up with a T1 car around a track. The coilovers in my opinion, are just too much $$ for a street car. By the time you get finished having them installed you will have probably spent $2,000 or more.

'04 shocks for sure. relatively inexpensive, and has FAR more R&D in them than any of the other options, and won't be a science project or painfully stiff.

I think the coilover fad is silly. Im sure they handle great, but then so a stock z06 =)

These are exactly the replies I am looking for.. Thanks

Does anyone know how much the 04 shocks go for @ the dealer off hand?

Maybe a nice addition to the 04 shocks would be an upgraded roll bar.. T1 or the hotchkis? Any thoughts?

the 04 z06 did the sub 8 minute nurburgring time with stock everything. why mess with that?

don't just throw suspension parts at a car, you can make it worse.

The only difference from 01 to 04 are:
shocks
sway bar endlinks (actually changed in 02)
possibly bushings, but I haven't been able to really confirm this.

I talked with Mike Neal (head suspension engineer for the C5/Z06) at Nashville, and he said all I needed to do for my 01 was go to 04 shocks and it would handle just like an 04. Keep in mind that I run my car at track days and autox a lot, and he knew this when he made the recommendation.

:iagree: What do you want to do with the car? From your earlier post it doesn't sound like you are into serious track use. If you aren't, why bother with the T1 bars? The Z06 with 04 shocks will be a great handling setup and will probably outhandle 99% of the cars on the road. If you need that little extra handling, go with the T1 bars, but I'd honestly try it with just the shocks for a while first.

Remember, the biggest handling improvement you can make is behind the steering wheel. :steering:
