I know this topic has been beaten to death, But I got pulled over today for the first time. The officer gave me a warning, but told me the fine was 75 bucks for no front plate. Technically, the plate is under the cover, so would that be a ticket for no front plate, or one for obstruction of front plate? Is there a difference? I have no intent to take the cover off... I live in NY. Thanks. :mad :mad :mad
I got that fine about 4 weeks ago. My plate was behind the plastic cover.
Rule. Cannot cover, or block FRONT license plate.
Now running with cover off.
Bill.
btw if you don't know. There are two screws on the bottom of the plastic plate holding the cover. My cop,-friend tried to rip off the cover. I removed the two screws for him before I drove off. (as he proceeded to write up the ticket)
:mad :mad :mad A ticket and $$$ fine is always the risk you run when your front license plate is not clearly visible in California. The last ticket I got for this was when my vette was parked in a public parking garage with the front of the car facing a wall!! Go figure!! :U
I was pulled over on Delaware street. Yes, it was just for the plate.
I am not whining and if I have to pay a fine at some point, I will. I just wanted to be well informed. I can't tell you the number of plates in this area that are obstructed. Heck, in winter here no ones plates show.
Look....the plate being covered by snow is one thing but, intentionally placing the plate behind a cover where it is not visible, is another. Can't we just use some common sense here and stop trying to find loop holes in the law? Yea I guess if the Officer used his/her Xray vision they could have seen your plate and then you would just have been obstructing the plate. Give me a break!
That's almost like putting your plates in the trunk, and pleading that you have them. The idea of the plate is to identify the car, and hiding them misses the point.
You cannot put a clear cover in front of the plate either. One person in the Syracuse club got tired of getting fines on his ZR1. So he read the regulation. At the time it said the plate had to be visible and not covered. It also gave some measurements on where it had to be located. He made a bracket that fastened to the front bumper behind the Corvette cover and brought two thin strips of metal out below the cover and bent them around and below the bumper. The plate is fastened to the strips below the bumper with the ID facing the ground. From the front of the car the plate is visible (but not legible, which isn't required) and it is not covered.

Bill .
any idea if the law has changed? I just hate the look of the front of the car without the cover. I saw one car with it mounted to the front spoiler... Wonder if that flys?
Did any of you geniuses stop to think that this is a forum. Forum being a place to air ones views. That expressing ones views repeatedly is a means to incent change in the very political system which mandates the front plates. That this forum can serve as a rallying point for those with the courage to contest the status quo. In the old days Thomas Payne incented "Common Sense" change through pen and paper, the media of theirtimes. Some of our forum members seek change through the Internet, the media of our time.
Its a hell of a lot more usefull than all those who go blathering on and on about how shiney their car is with that extra 100th coat of Zainos
There is a simple solution to this when you know what the law is in your area.
1) Keep the plate off, keep paying the fines.
2) Put the plate on, keep the money in your pocket.
3) Contact your political representative, lobby for removal of this law.
4) Move to a "No Front Plate" state.
But most of all....stop whining about it here!
My sentiments EXACTLY. This topic has been BEATEN TO DEATH on every Corvette, Porsche, BMW, etc. forum in the world.
