I don't have access to a lift, but I want to install my x-pipe myself. Has anyone done it on jack stands? Did you do it with the pipes still on the car or pull it apart at the exhaust manifold and do it off the car? I don't know of a local shop that I'd trust to work on my car and I'd rather do it myself anyway!
I had the feeling that this was one of those jobs I should have paid to have done! I decided to pull the system apart at the exhaust headeer and take it out from under the car to cut the h-pipe out and install the x-pipe. Being the hard headed DIY'er that I am I figured I could handle it. Most jobs like this I get done with brute force & ignorance! Well, I snapped off one of the studs that connect the pipe to the exhaust header so now I DO have to take it to someone to get it done! What a #&%@ing moron I am! Live and learn (the hard way) I guess! Dayum, I'm torqued! :mad :mad

I did mine on jack stands, piece of cake, it took less than 1 hour. I rented a pipe chain cutter ($5.00) did the measure twice cut once thing and bolted them up
:yesnod: :yesnod: It is alot more work with jack stands but can be done. There has to be a good muffler shop around you somewhere within driving distance. I would rather supervise this job standing up then laying on cold cement!!
Highroller, I assume you did NOT pull the pipes down from the exhaust manifold? Did you just take out the bolts that hold it up under the car and let it hang down to cut the pipes off? I'm going to take it to a muffler shop to get the stud replaced and then try it again - this time I will NOT mess with the exahust header connection!!!!!
I did it in my garage and it took about 40 minutes. The secret is the tail pipe cutter. Rent or buy a chain type cutter. It goes all the way around the pipe and when you move it about 30 degrees the cutting wheels on the chain cut the whole pipe. You just need to be slow and follow the directions. You will need someone to help you align the rear pipes before you tighten the flange bolts. If you are not comfortable in doing it most Corvette shops will do it for about $50 and it will take them about 30 inutes. Good luck!

Go by the measurements they give you, cut the pipe, then un-bolt and install, you never have to touch the manifold bolts, trust me it was very eazy and I'm a old guy (57)
