I have a 2001 Z06 and I am considering satellite radio. I'm looking for equipment recommendations. In particular, because I take the car to the track I'm looking for components that can be easily stowed, firmly secured, or removed on track days.
Delphi just came out with a new XM reciever called the Roady. Very slick looking and has 7 selectable colors displays for the screen to match any interior and it also comes with the smallest XM antenna on the market!
I just recieved a new Crutchfield book today and saw it for the first time in there. It says it will be available in late September for $119.99.
I just installed an Alpine head unit and XM tuner. XM is awesome. I've only had it for a day and love it. Install is clean. XM tuner is velcroed to the carpet under the passenger seat. Can be easily removed if you so choose. Antenna is the Terk XM3 and it is mounted in front dash all the way at the base of the window. Looks factory. I will have to put pics up when I get some.
I have Sirius with the add on to your existing stock system. It is a small control head that fits into the spot in front of the shifter where you would think the ash tray would be. The cover will close completely over the control head when not in use. You won't even be able to tell it's there. Also, two other points. They (tweeters) monted the control box under the stock radio. I am having a problem with the system shutting down after about an hour. We think it's becouse of the heat generated in that are. We (they) are going to move it under the seat to see if that will fix the problem. They will want to put your antena on the outside of the car. Very ugly in my opinion. You can mount the antena in the trunk or above the licence plate with no problems with reception. You will have to fabricate a bracket, but not a huge deal. Trust me, satelite radio is great, especialy if your stations are lame like ours. All Talk. Hope this helps. Scott
I had it installed by Progressive over on base. Tim, their installer, is the only guy I would let touch my car. He knows his stuff and goes the extra step to make sure it is perfect. You could say he is almost as picky about his installs as I am.
Scott, your local, if you want to check out the install, shoot me an email and I will give you my cell #. We can hook up this weekend and you can see it firsthand.

I,m getting ready to install the same Alpine set-up that you have.
Using velcro to mount xm tuner is a great idea. Was going to screw it down, but with velcro, I might be able to use it in different vehicles and not have to pay nultiple subscriptions. Thanks

Glad you like the idea. I really didn't want them drilling through the floor pan in the car. Velcro was the best bet.
Last year before moving from GA to WA, I had an in dash Pioneer XM unit installed in place of the factory radio. The receiver was mounted under the passenger seat and screwed down. The antenna was double sticky back stickemed to the inside of the right rear quarterpanel mounted sideways. Reception was good. All cables out of sight under the tunnel or the carpet.
I used it for one track day at Portland with no issues.
I loved XM. Keep meaning to get around putting it in my tow vehicle.
Just found out you don't have to replace the factory radio to get XM digitally (Not FM Modulated) Apparently it works through the factory changer cable and connection in the passenger footwell. Some adapter that converts from the factory plug to dual RCA's. You could also hook up an iPod and play it through the stock stereo with the aux button on the radio.
Send an IM to Tuan Lee at TL electronics (he is also a forum vendor). He can explain how to connect as well as provide you with equipment. I asked the same questions in the electronics forum about five months ago and got a lot of the answers (although I haven't done anything about it yet) you are looking for. Here you go http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=550576
The 9 pin connector goes in the back of the radio. top plug I believe. If you get the 10 pin, you will have to buy the GM CD Changer connector cable and plug into the end of that one.

Re: Satellite radio recommendations (Silver Ghost)
I had heard that the 9 pin would not work on the Corvette. Are you saying you used the 9 pin and that it did work? If so this is a good solution since the Z06s dont' come prewired with the CD changer control and the other solution is to buy both the 10 pin AUX and the CD control cable.
