I was having trouble shifting into reverse backing out of my garage or a parking space, etc. With just 6 weeks left on my warranty (2001), the dealer said the syncro was bad and replaced it. I'm not happy having my transmission taken out and worked on, but at least it did not cost me any money this time.
Has anyone else had this problem? With 24,000 miles on the car and no abuse, this is something that should not happen.
I have had the left differential seal replaced, passenger window solenoid, the engine re-ringed due to high oil consumption and now this, all in the past 12 months.
My wife says we need to get a GMPP (extended warranty) for 72 months/60,000 miles and $200 deductible. It will cost about $1,050, but any major problem will cost more than that. :(
Re: Reverse gear syncro replaced, anyone else? (Nestor D. White)
MY 02 WITH 9000 MILES HAD TO GO IN FOR WARRANTY ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO FOR TRANNY PROBLEMS. THEY REPLACED 3 RD, 5 TH, AND REVERSE PLUS THE SYNCROS. RUNS LIKE NEW .

 Hang on to those records. If it repeats soon, and sometimes does do to improper installation at the dealership, there's a good chance they will pick-up the tab. Been their with other manufactures. Hang tuff bro.

Not exactly that problem, but I did break reverse in a little race track mishap. The reason I'm posting is that the dealer did have to take it apart and re-build it and I never had another problem with it again. Thought I try and cheer you up
I have an appointment on Mon. 9/15 to take mine to the dealer. An '02 Z06 with only 4,000 miles has grinding in 3rd(badly), 5th and I need to double clutch to get into reverse at a stop.
