z06 tires don't like nails that much, as I unfortunately found out today.
So after a 378$ new front tire I was told that I should have had the roadhazard (which the dealer never mentioned before):
I called the local goodyear dealer and they will add it on no problem, even a car that is a year old with 8000 miles
Please to all the z06 owners out there, if you have stock tires look into adding the roadhazard
Oh yeah, anyone else have problems with the inflator kit ? I couldn't get the valve stem off even with the tool
I have never used the inflator kit but, I have removed many screws from my tires. I have been fortunate in that I have not had to replace one do to a nail of screw. Simply had them patched or plugged and went on my way. Only once did a tire go completely flat before I could get it fixed and I just pulled it off and took to be repaired off the car. After about 10K miles my rears were gone so no road hazard for them and the fronts are nearly toast at this point as well.
I have managed to squeeze 24,500 miles out of my original tires. I ran over a razor knife that cut the tread area about 1" long, but did not penetrate the cord - no repair needed, plus I have had 3 nails in the rears in 3 years. Fortuantely all could be plugged safely.
Now its time to replace them, as I am starting to see a small band of cord on the inside of both front tires. This is probably due to the tires being at a slight angle for hard cornering, but I'm not sure. I have been pretty easy on hard cornering but hundreds of straight sprints, plus a couple of times at the drag strip. Other than racing, I keep the traction control on all of the time to avoid wheel spin. I never had an alignment or any other tire problem, so will replace them with Eagle 1's again from the Tire Rack. :yesnod:
