own a 03 Quicksilver Z06 -( not sure why my sig isnt showing up below )
washing my car today....
and Ive noticed the last 2 times that my paint feels gritty...almost like it has
gotten overspray .....nothing I can see....just a gritty texture on the whole car...
is this a result of GM's metallic paint ?....or paint process ?
so I tried waxing the room today thinking maybe it was oxidation or something....but its still there.....
Be very careful with the claybar. Use diluted car wash soap or something similar as lubrication. Only work on a 1' x 1' area at a time. Knead your claybar into itself very often to make sure contaminants that come out are encapsulated with claybar material. Try a small part of a rear quarter panel first to ensure you get the feel for it and aren't scratching the paint. It's easy to scratch the paint with claybar if you get particulates in it and continue to use...that's why you knead it constantly, like taffy. If you drop the claybar on the floor toss it.
I couldn't agree more with the folks who suggested using a clay bar. It's time consuming and a real pain in the you know what. But you will be amazed at the difference between the feel of a freshly clayed surface and a freshly polished and waxed surface. The polished and waxed surface feels gritty in comparison. Good luck.
Might just be some fine dirt particles that are trapped in the wax. I was going to suggest what erveryone else said in use a clay bar. World of a difference before/after.
Clay is awesome! Contaminants in the air are enough to make the surface gritty. I clay at least every 90 days. Just use a bucket of water and some car wash after you wash the car. I usually clay while the car is still wet from washing.
The clay bar is the ultimate best-kept secret. I highly recommend Clay Magic - It is a large bar that can take many contaminants.
The Zaino clay was unfortunately useless - removing very little from the surface.
I you look really close, can you see what it is? On silver you just might be able to see it. If it looks like little tiny brown specks, then it is rail dust. Very common when the cars are shipped by rail. knead that clay often.
