Hello all, I'm glad to be a new member!!! I got a good ? for my 1st post...Alright all of my fellow techs, I have a ?/problem! I always have had a little whistle from my 02'Z06 when I'm pulling within certain RPM's. At first, I thought nothing of it until I put on my Vortex Intake yesterday...At 2000-2800 RPM's if I flutter the pedel to acceleratew it whistles, loudly!!! It literally at times sounds like a Turbo spooling up or a SC. If someone tells me it's normal great!, If not, is anyone aware of this or have a fix??? Thanks in advance...
Its normal... If you really want to hear it check out the video of my car running with a Zip-tied airbox. The video is shot from in front of the car, and the whistling is almost louder than the exhaust...
There are two versions I made, a lo-res 600K, and a high-res 9.2meg
Please right click on the link, and do a save as. Don't stream the video, as you will blow my allocation at my ISP right out of the water. Thanks.
J-Rod awesome video!!!! You have given me exactly what I needed to know. Is replaceing the intake a solution for the problem or a crap shoot??? Once again great vid!!! Thank you!!!
Whistle is normal....I also had a small whistle with my blackwing but when I installed the vortex....holy cow it does sound like a turbo. At least we know the vortex is doing its job...gobs and gobs of air.
Well, the good news is that it seems to be normal...I was told that a possible replacement of the intake may help??? (Intake Resonance Recall) I sometimes love it, but I find myself hating it when I am crusing in 4th gear and it just keeps on whistling. I AM glad it is working and I am going to be putting on a new ported throttle body and LS1 Edit this week as well, so I'll keep you up to date on the results... :chevy
I never had a whistle until i installed the vararam vr1b. I haerd that its normal but is amplified through the intake. Mine is only at a certain throttle position which is with the pedal slightly pressed.
The intake manifold itself is noisy, and one of the functions of the air box design is to reduce noise and whistle. I'm not sure it'll be quieter with it off.
Some people think its a turbo or a blower . Unfortunatly there is no power gain. A real turbo or blower vette must get alot of attention , my whistle turns heads. My dad says it whistles because it does'nt know the words.
