After a batch of bad valves and a little more tuning the Z finally made it back from MTI! Completely different car!
The idle is incredibly choppy, so much that the car shakes  And the thing sounds frikkin awesome! I went to leave a (rather lame) haunted house earlier and when I started the Z up I noticed everyone in the area was looking at it like "holy monkey!!!"
Plus, hitting 3rd gear causes a really noticable swayying in the back end. 4th just kinda goes a foot or two to the right then snaps back. :D :D :D
Needless to say I am most excellenly pleased with the results! Final numbers are 505bhp, 460ft-lbs (or is it lbs-ft???) from:
Congrats man. I'd love to get a nice h/c setup down the road, but I want to wait until this car starts to feel "normal". Geze I guess I'll never get H/C :jester . Have fun w/ the new power and go stomp on some vipers and porshe TTs
still waiting on my camera...
The new cam takes alot of getting used to. Its only went dead once, but that was my fault. For city driving and the like, if I want a smooth take off I either have to feather the clutch and take off slow or get the rpm's up around 1500 to 2000. Although Im getting smoother at it and more used to it and am able to take off almost like when stock.
But it has yet to stall just from idling. The idle rpm stays about 850, but when revved and allowed to idle again it drops to 500 for an instant then goes backto 850.
Ive been doing alot of cruising around since I got it back and have only found a couple of late model Cobras and an early '90s fox body GT. I just looked over at them all friendly like and nodded my head forward like "wanna play?" They just grinned and shook their head no.
...crap...
And I Desperately need a partition to kill some of the resonance! I swear it has a life of its own. Its like an entity thats trying to force its way into my skull. :banghead:
Also I was on my way home and calmy wound 6th gear to 100mph. Downshifted to 5th and just layed the throttle open. 110, 120..140..155..170..the thing just would not stop pulling! I felt the same amount of pull all the way from 100 to whenI lifted at 170. I would have held it and maybe even upshifted just to see what it would goto but common sense kicked in and made me remember that my tires are bald...oops... So I slow down carefully and head home.
So far I have NO complaints what-so-ever except that now no one wants to play :cry My most excellent thanks and kudos to the fine folks at MTI! ..although I noticed a slight oil smell after I got home. I know the LSx's burn oil anyway so I guess a H/C would make it burn a little more??
I am curious what your final horsepower numbers were at the tires? i am guessing 420 if you have 505bhp. Also can you snap some pictures of your roll bar and send them to me. I am trying to decide if i want to throw a roll bar in. thanks, Kaley
Kaley - 444.6 rwhp through cats. am going to put in the straight pipes and redyno just to see what the cats my be holding back. I'll be getting my camera from my Dad tomorrow so there will be plenty of good pics inside and out.
Scott - not at all. rough total is about 8.5k but I opted for a bunch of valvetrain (sp?) upgrades and the Borla system. H/C are probably the most dramatic improvement one could do to the LSx engines. Power, sound, durability, Im even seeing a very slight increase in highway gas mileage. :D
