Howdy -

I took the NCM delivery as well - well worth it, both the wifey and I had an awesome time! They really treat you like royalty.

How many times do you get an opportunity to do something like this? Heck, just roll it into the price of the car, and it's insignificant, but you'll have a very cool experience to look back on for a long time.

FWIW, the trip back (KY to FL) was a blast too! What a great way to put some break-in mileage on the car, winding through the Smokey Mountains!

I took the Museum delivery option. It was great. Took delivery in 2002 during the Corvette Forum Cruise In. That made it even more special. Here's a video of our delivery.

Does the standard frieght charge still apply plus the $400 for NCM delivery?
Yes it does - that is a "cost" that is allocated to all vehicles, regardless of destination. Whether it goes to Seattle or the Chevy dealer in Bowling Green, transport cost of $800 is added to the sticker.

It's for that reason I don't think it's worth it. You end up paying $1200. If you didn't have to pay the $800 for transport (to just across the street), then I would say for $400 it was worth it.

 You have to pay the $800 regardless. I think you are missing the point. If they were to take away the freight charge, they would be paying YOU $400 to do the museum delivery. I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!The $800 is a fixed cost and cannot be removed. SO, you are actually paying $400 for the NCM delivery not $1200. I believe if you had done the NCM delivery, you would not be saying what you said previosly. It is well worth it and I would do it again.

don't forget that the plant is closing for tours from december 1 through the end of april for the new generation tooling and builds.

i didn't pick my up at ncm and out of 10 people in our club that took delivery there, 5 liked it and 5 said it was no big deal and would not do it again.

my feelings are that they make 35,000 corvettes a year.

its not flying to italy to watch them make your ferrari or or driving your lamborghini around europe for a month before having it modified and shipped to the usa.

I understand you have to pay $800 regardlesss. But you have to pay this for them to ship the car across the street makes it a bit much! I believe if a person orders the NCM delivery they should not have to pay the transport charge of $800. I never said the NCM experience isn't great, just that the transport charge is unfair and to me not worth the total charge of $1200. I would have gladly paid the $400 for NCM delivery but not when you have to also pay the $800 transport charge. Especially when it doesn't cost $800 to move the car across the street!

I understand, unfortunately they cannot adjust this price. I know......I wondered the same thing. I believe the freight charge includes prep at the dealer which coming from being a detailer for a major car manufacturer, that is a major pain in the butt removing that plactic film......So I do not believe all the $800 is for just shipping alone.

Maybe the NCM Delivery should have been charging more than the $400.....more like $1200 but they are only charging $400 plus the shipping.......who knows

$800 is bit much for prep. And it is NOT a major pain in the butt to remove the plastic film. I had my car delivered with it on so I could take it off myself and it was very easy.

Why do you say GM should have charged more for the NCM delivery? You seem to be missing my point that while $400 is fine for NCM, adding $800 to deliver the car across the street is not. So basically you pay $1200 total.

How about this GM....I drive the car across the street for the NCM delivery and only pay you the $400.

R8C is $490, not $400.

I'm sure people who buy 'vettes from the Chevy dealer in BG or anyplace close to BG rankle at the $800, too, but that's the way the system is set up. And it's not just GM - it's industry-wide. If they did it any other way, it would be favoring dealers with facilities close to manufacturing plants - and those of us in CA would pay much more than $800.

To me, it was worth every penney - not just the $490, but 2 airfares from San Diego to Nashville, rental car, 5 nites in hotels, meals, and gas for the 2400-mile trip home. Oh, and buying $100 worth of Zaino stuff from RAT in Oklahoma. It's called a vacation, and the $490 was a small price to pay for some some great memories.

Yes, your right, its $490 not $400 if you want to be exact. When I did the NCM I must have spent about $700 not including the $490 for 3 nights and car rental. Well worth it for a mini vacation.
I dont know how hard it is to take the plastic off the vettes but when I worked at Nissans it WAS a pain in the butt because it would leave glue on the paint and you had to go back over it and remove with solvent. Prep work to me is important and not an easy task.

I'm not saying the $490 isn't worth it. But I think if you take NCM delivery you shouldn't have to pay the manadatory $800 shipping charge to ship it across the street. That just doesn't seem fair to me and makes it a rip off.
