My Z has about 24k miles on it. I am getting some small problems on daily basis. Liek squeaks and clutch sticking at VERY high rpms and MPH and stuff like that and GM even though they know about it just want to BS like most you know. So i am thinking now
1. Should i trade my 01 Z and get a EB 2003 Z (44k) with 0 down and 1.9% apr for 72 months. That will put my monthly payment at about 100 dollars more then wot i pay now. Off course i will loose my New Cross drilled brakes that i spent a 1000 dollars on. BUt i need new tires so not have to buy new tires will even that out. I will loose my chrome wheels but i can buy them aftwewards any time. I plan on taking my partitio and my HIDs and my sound system out.
2. My seconds choice that every one i talk to is pushing me on is. I should buy a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 966. I can get one with 25k miles for around 40-42k. It will be underwarranty through a third arty. Everythign else will be stock o-60 4.9 seconds. HP 296.
torque 258. Interior so so. Color is charcoal grey car is in super condition inside and out. Even has a SUN ROOF and 2 use less back seats. :) We don't see too many porsches around here so i guess i will get exclucivity.
What will you do if you were in my situation. I liek the power of Z but i don't get to use it too often. Everyone is so scared of the Z's that no one want to go with it. So power is not the issue here. Over all what do u guys think?
Re: No flames please just friendly advice. (MrKool)
porsches aren't made of unobtanium yet.
it will have issues as it ages too, and though the factory may be more willing to help fix them, they will charge more to do so.
it would make a more durable track day car in stock form tho, if you are into that.

Why trade your problems for someone elses? Same mileage.
:withstupid: You'll spend less money over time fixing the aches and squeaks of your '01 than to buy again. Unless , you take a 3-year lease on the '03 for a short payment and roll into a brandy-new "06 Zo6 when they launch!

The 1999 Porsche 996's had some problems as you might expect for the first year of major redesign. I considered purchasing one before I bought my 993. It's gone now and I have the Z06. I agree with others here, go for the new Z06. If you really want a 996, I would go with a 2000 or newer.
Re: No flames please just friendly advice. (MrKool)
having had a 1999 996 cab I would not touch that car. sure the newer 2001 are pretty nice but IMHO the 1999 is the red headed step child of the bunch and as such are worthless as performance or GT cars. The 996 production is still brisk, dealers are giving substantial discounts on brand new cars and year old cars are there for the taking...just look around. but Z06 and the 996 are worlds apart as they are so different. they are both capable, but once you get the feel of the big V8 you will be disappointed going back to high spinners...good luck both are great cars but very different
Re: No flames please just friendly advice. (MrKool)
I wouldn't nickle and dime your small problems away in hopes of a better situation with a different car (Porsche  ) The problems you describe are annoying as can be but can be corrected with less than 2K. Swap out your clutch and be done with it. It would cost you far more with time, aggravation, and the costs associated with buying another car (new loan possibly, sales tax, registration etc) and then you have to hope you don't find the reasons why the Porsche guy traded his heap in.
The lazy pedal syndrome didn't go way for me until I went with a Cartek clutch setup and , trust me, I tried every "fix" possible short of swapping it out for yet another GM clutch. Good luck.

The only porsche worth getting is a turbo in contrast to your vette. If you get the porsche -- you would be very regretful when vettes drives --p a s t-- you. Good Luck. :chevy
Re: No flames please just friendly advice. (2ndVette)
I agree with those above that you are trading one problem for another with a used Porsche. Porsches are not invincible and when things go wrong on a Porsche you pay dearly unless you do it yourself. A third party warranty will have loop holes so make sure you read it carefully if you decide to go the Porsche route

and the GT3
=)

You're getting some good advise above, but just a couple more random thoughts. First, the Z06 and the Porsche ride a lot differently. Some people like one; some people like the other. Just make sure you test drive the daylights out of the Porsche before you make the move. Second, $44K sounds like A LOT for an 03. If you do a little homework, you can pick up an 04 for $45-46K (I've heard of even less). And, if you're willing to wait a few more months, I understand those prices will be even lower. You probably won't be able to get the same killer financing on an 04, but your car won't be a year old either. Best wishes.

All I know is my Z06 eats 911 Carreras for lunch. Chews 'em up and spits 'em out :smash:
Why would I want to spend more money, more maintenance, on a slower, inferior performing car? The only Porsche that makes sense relative to the Z06 is the 911 Turbo, but it's price tag makes no sense, unfortunately.
Exclusivity? Who cares?!? I'll never understand why people want exclusivity with their cars. No matter how exclusive your car is, there will always be someone with more exclusivity than you. So why bother?
Besides, where I live, Porsche's are popular as Toyota Camry's. Every other car here is a Porsche.
So of course, my obvious answer to you is, sell your '01 (since it sounds like it may be of the lemon variety), and get the '03 Z06 (most Z06's are not lemony).
Go with the Porsche if you have so much money that you don't know how to spend it all, and if the Z06 has too much power for you. ;)

race against a 911 for a 30 minute race on a road course somewhere
the 911 will chew you up.
there ARE some compromises in the z06 design that make it so quick for so little money.

Re: No flames please just friendly advice. (jackmott)
W/ a few small track mods a Z06 will kick the crap out of any 911 non-turbo. Just add some brake coolers and maybe a tranny cooler. My neighbor had a 2002 porshe vert and an m3... after driving and riding in my Z he's trading the M3 on an '03 Z and keeping the porshe b/c it's a vert. The sticking clutch pedal will be under warranty if you have any left. My '01 is under warranty 'till 1/20/04. I'm going to have the re-ring and clutch looked at. BTW they replace it w/ a full '02+ assembly.
