How often should you re-align all four wheels. Could this be the problem why my ZO6 launches a little sideways at full acceleration out of 1st and 2nd gear?
You should only need to re-align after lowering and/or a lot of miles; or if you detect steering that is off center. Getting sideways under hard acceleration is normal, it's do to the spinning rear wheels, have fun with it. :yesnod: :)
MikeNMax: I experienced the same exact sensation and posted practically the same exact question about 2-3 weeks ago. A number of folks suggested to have the wheel alignment and the tread on the rear tires checked out of an abundance of caution. I did that and there's was no problem. Just to be safe and to put your mind at ease, you might want to do the same. But it's probably just the high torque at those rear wheels. Just something you have to get use to I guess. Good luck.
part of the reason for sidewars movement under acceleration is that the cars weight shifts to one side more than the other, due to the force of the drivetrain rotatin in one direction.
you could probably keep things tracking straighter with a wee bit of toe in at the rear.
Jack: Please forgive me, but I'm new here. I've seen a lot of your posts and you obviously know what you're talking about. Can you please tell us exactly what you mean by "a bit of toe in at the rear"? That sideways drift sensation drives me a bit nuts. I'll try anything to reduce that. Many thanks.
The engine applies TQ causing one side of the car to be "heavier" than the other side. The tire on the side with less "weight" will slide at lower force levels than the tire on the "heavy" side. When one tire slips and the other grips, the one that grips pushes the back end of the car outward, and requires a steering correction.
