Wow...... Tracy, I can actually feel your frustration towards this product as I read your post. Hope I didn't ruin your weekend. :)
There have been many products that sound too good to be true and there is usually a forum member that has tried each in some way, shape or form. (35hp gain with an air intake???) I myself have actually bought 5 intakes to test and see which ones live up to their claims. I usually do not like to give an opinion unless I have experience with a product. Every vendor you speak with has the best product. That's why this forum is so valuable. Different people trying different products and passing along their results.
P.S. O.K you convinced me..I won't try the tornado!!!!!

OK, out with it. What is the best air intake of the five you have purchased? Enquiring minds want to know.
Well SLONG, From my personal experiences, on my '02 Z06 with everything else being equal, the vortex ram air induction decreased 1/4 mile times the most and showed the highest hp increase. All five intakes were tested at the track but not all five were dynoed. (I felt the blackwing,zip-tie, and twin flow weren't worth the time and money.)
2002---I share your opinion on the Vortex. I had one on my 2000 HT. It was cheap, it sniffed cooler ambient (outside) air instead of underhood air, and wasn't terribly risky from a water injection standpoint. I felt it increased throttle response, particularly on cold days. Any system that sniffs outside air is going to increase performance. HP? Don't know. The Z06 screens and airbox is such a system, but not as significantly "ambient" as a Vortex or any of the sealed, purely outside airbox systems. The science says so. But how much it increases performance will always be open to debate. Some? At least a few HP? 35? Doubtful. 10? Maybe. In the end, "you pays your moneys and you takes your chances."
Anyway, I find it fascinating that you acutally took the time and expense to try 5 systems. Hell, maybe I'm all wet and you SHOULD try the Tornado!!!
And yeah, I do get frustrated at the junk that's sold to either make your engine last for 500K miles by pouring some Teflon mystery fluid in your oil filler or give you lots of HP and mileage by clamping it to your gas line or carb or air filter. Do you guys recall the "ionizer screens" that were mounted in a plate that you mounted between the carb and the manifold? This was during the mid-70's gas crisis. Simple window screen, formed into a swoopy cone shape and attacted to a quarter-inch carb spacer. It restricted the fuel-air flow capability from the carb above, which means it might HAVE reduced mileage, at the expense of full throttle power. Like having a smaller carb throat bores!! Plus, I wonder how many engines were destroyed by the screen coming loose from the spacer......
