My Z06 has about 6000 miles on it and is making a clicking noise in the rear end when accelerating and deaccelerating, especially when cold. Is this normal or do I have a loose sway bar or shock or something?
Re: Clicking or Knocking in Rear End (JeffFWCvette)
My car was making that noise whenever I would change from accelerating to decelerating, or when going over large bumps. I decided to check all the rear suspension bolts for tightness myself. I found the upper shock mount bolts to be loose - factory mistake. I tightened them up, and problem solved! I've heard other C5's have left the factory with these bolts loose too, so I would check 'em! They're easy to get at and easy to tighten, so I wouldn't even bother with a dealer if you're decent with a wrench.
Well, I took the Vette to the dealer just in case it was something bad. They found a seal leak in the rear end, apparently a typical problem but no evidence of anything else wrong. They said they drove a couple of other Vettes and decided the noise was normal. I'm not sure I believe it is normal so I will check those upper shock mounts myself and keep an ear on the noise to see if it gets any worse.
Mine occasionally makes slight clunking noises from the right rear over uneven pavement. At least some of the noise was coming from the tire-inflation kit.

Mine makes a clicking noise as well. I can sit at a stop and ease the clutch out an "click". It's also quite pronounced when in first gear chugging along at idle. I tap the gas lightly and "click". Damn annoying, and the dealer says they can't find anything wrong with it.
Seems to me it's got to be a u-joint or something similar. I'll check underneath for loose bolts before I take it back to the dealer. It's driving me nuts!
