[Z06] Supercharger Advice

Default Supercharger Advice

I did it. I convinced my wife to let me put an LPE or Magna Supercharger on my 2001 Z06. Couple of questions:

1) I currently have a vararam intake in my car, and have been concerned about filtration and sealing issues. Should I have them take it off and swap it with another intake system when doing the supercharger install

2) I will definitely wait for the intercooled version to come out, but would you suggest I go with LPE's version, or the Magna Charger

3) In regards to installation, are there any installers/tuners you would suggest from the west coast. Must be ASE certified as I will want the powertrain warranty

4) Lastly, part of the deal for the supercharger makes me commit to my car till 2010.. What's the chances my engine will last till then - do you think I will have to do an engine rebuild before then

1) If you're concerned about it, change it. It's best to get all the components together and then dynotune.
2) I doubt there's a difference in the hardware, more likely in the programming. LPE's is a proven commodity.
3) Ship it to 21MC
4) It should make it, provided you drive reasonably - just as a stock engine should.

1. I doubt any existing aftermarket CAI will work with a blower since you will now have mechanical boost AFTER the filter. Your new blower will/should come with a filter that works for it.

2. Roots style or centrifical will depend on how you use the car and future plans. Roots type will make more power down low, centifical will make more power on top. Also the centrifical blowers are more upgradable with pulley changes as the thirst for HP continues (with most of us anyway).

3. Any blower will void the factory warranty on the drivetrain - period. If you buy LPE's system and have them install it they provide a warranty on the motor, not GM.

4. And now for some advise you didn't ask for, from someone who has been there many times. Don't go with a blower until/unless you are prepared for a rebuild. If you don't believe me that is OK, (I am not easily offended), but the hyperpathetic pistons in these cars are crap with increased pressure and most motors won't take it for long. I broke my first piston in an LT1 motor on 7 #'s of boost. If boost you must than you are right to get an intercooler, also get the car tuned by a pro who will keep the A/F rich and the timing conservative (especially on the top end).
