It was this "outside agent", that saved you from paying the gas guzzler tax on this car. We're are not talking about reving up to 10 grand between shifts to avoid the 1 to 4 shift here people. It's not that big of a thing and very easy thing. I've had my car since July and had CAGS come into play maybe twice. I quickly learned how to get around it without any disruption to my driving style. Now I just laugh when I hear about others complaining about it.
It's a 6 speed sports car, learn to drive it! If it's to much for you (grandpa), maybe it's time to get an automatic.
Re: CAGS question for you gurus... (RaceCarDriver)
Where can I buy the CAGS mod and how do I install it?
Radio Shack
2.2K 1/2 watt resistor.
5/$1
Unplug cable marked skip shift from the tranny.
Insert end wires of resistor into the 2 holes at the end of the cable.
Tape them up and zip tie the cable up and out of the way.
You can also put tape on the plug on the tranny you just pulled the wire from.

Just kidding.

I said the same thing when I had my coupe for only a few months.
A couple of times it reared its ugly head then I broke down and spent the 20 cents to be done with it. :jester
Nice work. Glad to see someone admit it has shifted for them when you possibly were not expecting too. If I did not live in such a populated area, CAGS would more then likely not bother me.
Quick Shylor! There is a grandma in front of me in heavy traffic. I'm spazzing out!
If you just install the CAGS elimination device, the light will still come on.
I recommend having LS1 Edit done on your car - that will eliminate not only the CAGS, but the light as well - it will also give you a nice boost in power (in my experience).
it will also give you a nice boost in power (in my experience)
And this boost in power is from? I'm thinking it's just in your head.
Hi Shylor -
My power boost was documented on a chassis dyno - run 1 - 356 rwhp - run two, with no other changes other than ls1 edit by Breathless - 372 rwhp. I have the sheets to back this claim up.
So two runs and that is proof to you? How many runs did you do before the change? Other factors do come into play.... fuel and air density, just to name a few. I don't get how turning off the CAGS has anything to do with an improved power boost. If your CAGS engaged I could see it but most of the time it doesn't and your cars power should be the same when it doesn't engage.
What am I missing that turning off CAGS would increase power?

No one would get LS1 tuning just to turn off CAGS. While performing a performance tune on the engine, you are able to deactivate CAGS.
:lolg: I see, you thought I was saying my CAGS elimination gave me an increase in power - :smash:
What I meant to say (but failed miserably...) was that having and LS1 Edit "computer tune" done will give you and increase in power (my experience) and will have the nice side benefit of eliminating the CAGS NAGS (the nagging light on the dash).
:iagree: I had the cags bypass - with it the light comes on but the solenoid is not activated. Now with LS1Edit no light either. As far as shifting at a higher RPM, I prefer to shift when I want, not when I need to in order to avoid cags.
And nobody who has gone for a ride with me on the street or track has ever suggested I drive like a Grandma :)
So spend the $29 for the bypass, one of my favorite mods.

The PCM does not enable CAGS until the engine coolant reaches a specific temperature. If you watch your dash when you first start out with cold coolant in the morning the CAGS light stays off and CAGS does not occur.
With LS1Edit you can raise the CAGS enable temp to a value that will never occur. I moved mine up to 250 degrees F and I never get CAGS or the CAGS light.
If you use a CAGS bypass plug you will still get the CAGS light in the dash after the coolant warms up.
If you plan to buy LS1Edit for the tuning (a good thing IMHO), save the money on the cags defeat, as well as other things like fan controllers, MAFT's etc., and do it right the first time.

That CAGS drove me nuts when I first got the car. It's inexpensive and real easy to install and a total reversal is just as easy. Give it a shot, you probably won't miss the CAGS. Chevy initially put it on to bypass the owner having to pay a Gas Guzzler Tax. Dash light will still come on though.
This is certainly the most cost effective fix I've heard of. I figured it was a resistor or a diode (to look electrically like a solnoid).
Mid American and Ecklers both sell their kit for aroun $20. One nice thing about the kit is that it includes a blank plug to fit into the trans where it CAGS wire attaches. This keeps that clean. There is also a simple nylon tie to hold the loose CAGES wire, plug, and their resistor device, up out of the way. I assume you can also buy the blank plug at Radio Shack? You can the nylon ties there for sure.
I must say I love my CAGS defeat device. Yes it's easy in almost all situations to drive around it. But it is very nice to just not have to deal with it. I'm glad there's no gas guzzler tax because of CAGS. I'm also glad it' so easy to modify. I hope it remains as it is.

No blank plug at radio shack.
I just put some tape on it.
Same electrical tape I used on the resistor.
I don't worry much about anything getting in there.
I don't even drive it in the rain.
