Okay, I guess this is a dumb question. Does the DIC display trans temperature if you have the 6 speed? I know it does for the auto trans, but what about us Z06 guys. I would think trans temp is not as critical for us as it is for the auto trans guys, but since there is a factory cooler for the Z06 if you're into seriouc track time, is there a temp read out? I can't see any wires except the CAGS into my 6 speed.
You can only see the trans temp diplayed on the DIC after you have had a "High Trans Temp" event. I think the DIC comes on when the tranny reaches a temp of about 274 with a message of High Trans Temp. If you hit another button you will see the trans temp until it cools down to a certain point then it's gone again.
It may be 270* when it comes on. You will get the "high trans temp" on the DIC. IF you hit the reset button you will get the temp readout. You can select other "gauge" settings on the DIC and the tranny temp will come up after oil temp. If you select any of the other DIC buttons such as miles or options the tranny temp will not come back up when you select the gauge button again. I believe it will stay this way even if you turn the car off.
:iagree: I have unfortunately seen this High Trans Temp message come up on my DIC once. Freaked me out  but luckily it was the last lap of my track session anyway. I believe that those who have tranny coolers installed also have a temp gauge installed in the cabin (i.e. not part of the DIC). I'm not entirely sure about that though.
Thanks for the information guys! If the DIC can display the 6 speed trans temperature, I wonder why it isn't a normal mode? Seems a shame.
One more dumb question: Does the high temperature warning work if you've disabled the CAGS feature? I can only see the CAGS wires running into the trans. The high temp warning must use these wires, or there must be a sensor and wires somewhere else to detect the trans fluid temperature.
Have you guys that have seen the high temp warning disabled your CAGS?
I have not disable CAGS nor do I know if this would disable high temp warning. On a side note, I asked one of the mechanics at the track about the warning and he said I shouldn't worry, the threshold level for those warnings are set for a much lower temp than the fluid can actually handle. I certainly wouldn't keep driving it after the light comes on though.

Thanks a lot gmblack3! The second wire is obvious. Don't know how I missed it. I guess I was focused on the CAGS when I disabled it.
Now I really do wonder why this isn't a standard readout for the 6 speed like it is for the auto trans. This looks just like a regular temperature sensor. Also serves as the fill plug. Who would have guessed that one!
PS The photos were great. I'll keep them on file for when I change out the trans fluid.
