Default Ceramic Pads to Decrease Brake Squeal

I'm considering changing brake pads to ceramic to try and eliminate the terrible squealing on my 9,000 mile Z.

I have a couple of questions for you gurus:

1. Will it matter if I only change the fronts to ceramic? Do I have to do all four? I don't really hear much noise coming from the back brakes.

2. What's the best ceramic pad for the money? I don't need ideal race pads for my driving but I don't want crappy pads either.

Thanks in advance.

After even more searching and a lot more reading, I pulled the trigger on the GM Durastop Ceramic Pad Kit for the fronts (GM Part # 88909667) from GMPartsdirect.com.

$72.09 plus $14.42 shipping = $86.51 total

I believe the rear pads are the same for all C5's so there should be no noise there. I just got some EBC greenstuff pads that I will be putting them on tonight to see if they are quiet and dust free.

I see you already bought some. But, since you asked for suggestions... for ceramics, we recommend Raybestos QS pads. These are one of the top choices for ceramics by members of the Forum.

They provide the following features and benefits:

Feature: A revolutionary ceramic friction formulation
Benefit: Ultra-quiet braking performance with ultra-low dusting

Feature: 100% shimmed, slotted and chamfered
Benefit: Exceptional durability, resistance to fade and rapid recovery

Feature: Integrally molded
Benefit: Superior strength

Feature: Coverage for late model domestic and import passenger cars and sport utility vehicles
Benefit: First to Market with O.E. specified ceramic applications and popular upgrades

Feature: Post-cured
Benefit: Requires no break-in period, for safe and consistent performance

Hey Keith,

I'll give the GM ceramics a try and the QS pads after that. I'll then compare and contrast.

Thank you very much for the writeup. I appreciate it.

I had Wilwood ceramic pads installed along with Baer Eradispeed +1 rotors.
Not sure, but I think Raybestos makes the pads for Wilwood.
No noise and hardly any dusting on my wheels!
