I have visited the site many times (that is an understatement) over the past 6 months since getting my Z06. Good content, and in general, very few flames/personallity issues between members. IMHO, a good thing.
A little history. This is my first Corvette and my first "power" car since owning a 1970 440 Six Pack Challenger back in 1971. Got this car as sort of a present/celebration, since I was about to turn 50 in August (mid-life crisis car...not!) and my oldest son, Marc, blessed me (sort of) by deciding to attend the US Coast Guard Academy. Being that his education is totally paid for and that my wife and I were prepared to send him wherever he decided to go (without him having to take any loans) I was left with the financial advantage of being able to get this wonderful vehicle (and 0% finance from the General). I also should thank all of you tax-payers (LOL), since you are helping to pay for Marc's education. But, to make you feel comfortable, he is headed into his first semester finals next week sporting a 3.5+ average (and carrying 21 credit hours!) and I am sure once he graduates he will serve his country Proudly and competently for at least the 5 years he has committed (and perhaps beyong that).
And one last thing. Please do not take offense to my screen name. I'm bright, but that is a play on words for the type of work I'm involved in (genetic research).
 and stop whining, your kid should at least carry 4.0GPA - on my money, and because you did not pay cash for your Vette "hence the name" your probably the janitor. Just kidding, and it sounds like you and your better half raised a fine son too!
He is a great kid. But I am a good dad. I got the car 2 weeks prior to his having to report to "Swab summer" at the academy. Needless to say, he put almost a 1000 miles on it during that time. I think he did a good job of "breaking it in" for me (LOL).
I have one myself. I, we are very lucky, and I feel good from how I raised my son. I applaud your abilities, as well as your better half. God only knows that she was leading the way throughout the entire way. HereÂ’s to both of you - - PS: Tell your son thanks, and be careful guarding our coast line.
I hear you. I have 3 sons and my wife has taken the lead as well (though I do my fair share, the women always does more) and that is along with her having a very responsible job (Director of Regulatory Affairs at a drug company). With that said, she tends to be more of the disciplinarian while I tend to be a bit more liberal (comes from being one of 3 sons myself). While they are not perfect (as she would like them to be) they are all excellent students and atheletes in their own right. And I have always maintainted that I am not worried that when they grow up they will become axe murderers or something horrible like that. Rather I trust they will all become positive contributors to society. I am sure you feel the same way about your son as I do about mine and that he to will "do you proud." That's all we can ask and hope for.
It just so happens that I will be going to Arkansas (I know, please no jokes) in January to visit a National Insitutes of Health division that is looking very closely on "point mutations" in ones DNA which might serve as "markers" for the development/predisposition to certain types of cancer.
And one last thing. Please do not take offense to my screen name. I'm bright, but that is a play on words for the type of work I'm involved in (genetic research).
Don
that's cool....i'm not really the son of satan.....oh wait, yes i am... :reddevil
As a team member at Amgen Thousand Oaks Kalefornia, that was for Arnold, we all are in the hunt for this elusive drug that hopefully someday will do the job we need it too.
You work for a great company. I am actually talking with some folks there in Thousand Oaks and probably will be visiting sometime in 2004. My thoughts go out to Arnold as well. I am optimistic that we'll see some good things soon. Lots of other great comapanies tackling this disease. Real progress!
