Behind the front windshield,on top of the dash board, there is a 12in.air vent. On the pass. side there is a round black plastic piece. On the drivers side there is a little spot with a small hole. What am I looking at? Thx.
Good question. That's part of the front windshield defroster system but the hole on the left side and the protruding plastic bullet on the passenger side puzzles me. No doubt this bunch will tell us both why it is configured that way. Perhaps as some sort of aid in installation of the piece itself? :skep:
The bullet shaped item on the right side is the "Sunload" Sensor
The hole on the left side may have the "Ambient Light" Sensor installed behind it.
The sunload sensor is used by the HVAC to help determine the amount of AC to use to maintain the temperature inside the vehicle. It takes less AC, for example, to hold 70 degrees when it is cloudy and 90 outside, versus when it is bright sun and 90 outside.
The ambient light sensor (I don't know if it is installed if you don't have the "Auto On" headlight feature .... Twilight Sentinal??) simply tells the car when to automatically turn on/off your headlights based on the amount of light determined by the sensor.
