I have an automatic antenna but still have never run through the car wash (It would never fit even if I wanted to). I have them hand wash the Vette outside. I do take my Black H2 through the car wash and believe it or not, there are very few, if any scratches on it from the car wash. I am amazed every time I send it in.... I expect the worst but not a single scratch or swirl yet.
RE the carwash study. Never trust a study sponsored (paid) by someone who benefits from the study. It's like politicians and the studies they have performed for them. Always Skewed.
I question such a study anyway. What was the condition of the machinery, the recycled water tank, etc. I am sure not every car wash outfit monitors the cleanliness of equipment, the grime level in its tanks and the soap and alkinlinity in its wash water.
My 2 c. I have washed my cars by hand since I can remember. Even when it was freezin when I lived up North. I could never believe the residue from the car in front of me with its layer of salt and sand off the rear would be cleaned up by the "system" in a matter of seconds.
I have a 1600 psi pressure washer. Maybe I could use it to clean off the dirt from the car before cleaning it with soapy sponge to avoid pushing dirt around with the sponge.
I know that pressure washer can be use for something else than cutting through old plastic lawn furniture (so much fun).
Gee I wonder who funded the study, the carwash guys. Duh, why am I not surprised by the results. Every auto car wash I have used leaves a mark on the side of the car.
