Default Modifying the HUD

I've had this in my head for a few months now. Is it possible to change the color of the RPM and the SHIFT light on the HUD, for better visibility?

I'd make the RPMs yellow or red, and the SHIFT light red or yellow.

Have not looked into how these HUDs work, but that would be a worth while mod. If anyone has info on this, or a place where I can study how this could be done, I'd appreciate the info.

thanks,

-arbi

I think all you would have to do is place a sheet of tinted color film over the area you wanted to change.

Hey,
You must be reading my mind. I posted the same complaint/improvement in the thread below this entitled "What I don't like about my Z06".

I agree that if there were a way to have 2 colors this would vastly improve the utility/useability of the HUD when shifting. With the RPMs and MPH the same color it is just to "busy" to distinguish and "pick up" the RPMs.

We may see something like that in the C6:

"Sources at Nippon Seiki confirmed that innovations on the Cadillac XLR HUD include its reconfigurable liquid crystal display (LCD), which is easier to read than previous HUDs. The instructions can be configured in several colours and settings, and in six languages – English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Italian and Japanese."

They are built in the same plant, so you would think the new C6 would get this new HUD. Just a thought... no actual proof.

It's very possible you already know this, but in case you don't, you can select
what information is displayed in the HUD, making it less busy. :)

I'm telling you just cut out a piece of colored film and position it over the area you want to change.

Take a look at the early C4's digital dash, that's how they did it for the colors.

Just install a shift light. Better illums and better accuracy. The HUD display too late. :banghead:

I got used to it in a jet - it was, and is, useful when your hands are full and you cannot bury your head to see what is going on inside the "cockpit"....

i don't have a Z06 yet, but i do know a little about electronics, most LED's and LCD get there color from voltage, certain voltages make certain colors, a resitor might do the trick, just remeber ohms law E=IR. it all really depends how they made it,

Much easier to just cut out a sheet of colored film and place it over the area you want different.

Persistance is the key, right Shylor. :jester :p:

I don't think that would work. Where would you put the colored film, on the lens. If you do that it might not always work, because once you move the display up or down, the film will not line up.

I know I'm constantly moving mine up and down. It all depends on the mood I'm in. If I'm really relaxed, I like to slouch a bit. And that would cause me to move the display up a bit. Or maybe I'm the only one who does that. I don't know, either way that would be cool if you could change the colors.

No.....you put the film right over the display area you want colored. So you would have to take off the lens and get into the HUD unit.

For the film installation.

We have an aqua blue projection how and I make the assumption we the "mod" would be is to make the digital tach go blue, yellow, finally red.

So what color film do we buy...brand, part #, any suggestions where to buy?

Then lay the film on top of the dash clear plastic and static electricity holds the film in place?

Just an FYI - adding a filter to the HUD FL display is going to make it dimmer. It'll look great at night, but might be hard to see in bright daylight. If you do try it - I'd suggest adding the filter material to the front of the FL display - inside the HUD box. You'll be able to adjust the mirror and have the filter stay in the correct place. (see pic)

I do have it shut off, but what really annoys me is how I can see the reflection of the HUD box in the window from time to time!

You can't turn off a reflection can you?

Dash Mat with no Hud cutout?

Are you serious, is one available?

What would something like that cost? I would actually consider that!
