I reduced the RPM when I hammered it and improved my 60' times and reduced HOP to almost nil...I launch at 1800-2100 RPM on the F1s. On other cars I launch at a much higher rpm.
1. Feather the clutch, play with tire pressures
2. Have alignment checked
3. Install polyurethene bushings in rear suspension parts
I have been drag racing for MANY years, had wheel hop fo bad in this car when I bought it that the driver abuse algorithm would re-engage traction control on launch, as well as the 1-2 ans 2-3 shift. Some cars have it worse than others, mine had it very bad. For me the poly "U" bushings took care of 90% of it, and items (1) and (2) the rest.
Do a search, this topic has some other ideas as well.
Wheel hop is when available traction exceeds the suspensions ability to keep the tire "planted" on the pavement. The suspension flexes up and down as the tire skips along the pavement.
"Feathering" the clutch means to release it more slowly when shifting hard. and by modulating the fun pedal and clutch you get to a happy medium of maximum accelleration with minimal wheel hop. Like I said, some cars seem to have it worse than others, and exceptional drivers like Ranger manage excellent times by modulating the clutch as described. I am not that good apparently so I fixed it by putting in the poly u bushings, which "flex" much less than stock. Some have fixed less severe wheel hop problems with a good alignment, some with different shocks. No one cure fits all.
So, I assume the hop is caused by the intial (shock) load put upon the suspension when you dump the clutch. I had the problem nailing it from a 10 mph roll with the clutch out as well. Weather was cold.
Z06Les: Thanks for the info. Please, one last question. A couple days ago I posted a question about whether the poly u bushings were worth the cost. The responses I got back were not that favorable. Do you disagree? Thanks.

Re: Wheel HOP! (Rob's 73)
I only had wheel hop the first time I tracked my Z. I determined I can't power shift 1-2. Since I stopped that, I haven't had wheel hop since!! :flag
IMO the poly U bushings are an excellent mod, well worth the money, but try the alignment and tire pressure tricks first.

Some say it does, it definitely changes the travel action of the shocks, so in theory it could help. Lowering the car had no affect on my wheel hop, one way or the other.
