After convincing the wife why I had to have a new Z06 this month, (she was surprisingly calm dealing with that matter), I just explained to her all the mods that need to be done to bring the car to its true potential, from where GM left off. Oh boy, she did not deal well with Mod-fever. Even after I explained to her all the benefits...like how easy it will be to pick out my xmas and birthday presents :D
Let's here from all you married modders on dealing with the S/O on this issue. :grouphug: :seeya
Good post. I pressume that this is a very common problem. I'm fortunate enough to have the best wife in the whole world. She was OK with pulling out the checkbook for the car, and now that I'm in mod fever, I've not had any major problems. In fact, she wants to spend more on me for Xmas than I want her to. I made an ENORMOUS mistake with marriage the first time around. But, I chose MUCH MORE wisely the second go around. :D Good luck.
I have kind of retired from doing track events, but, back about ten years ago, both my wife and I were heavily into it. I was easy then to do mods to the track car. I would tell my wife what I was planning, she would ask if the car would go faster, I would say, "Yes", and she would sweetly say, "OK!"
Getting your wife involved in your car activities makes life much easier.
man i just dont ell her, she doesnt know the benefits of headers! i get the same answer its already fast you dont need anything else. so i just dont tell her what im doing
I bought my wife a White 03 C5 coupe a month before I bought MY Z06. She loved hers so much she convinced me to buy one for myself!!! ;) :steering:
Thats how it works guys, 38 years of marriage you have to learn something! :smash: :yesnod: :blueangel:
Wow - that is ballzy - new Z06 and then all the mods up front - I like your style!
One thing that might work would be reciprocative gifting - observe -
"Hi honey - here are those new two carat diamond earrings you were wanting - I love you baby". "Oh, I almost forgot - I bought a new Vette Essentials interior kit".
See how that works? You can fill in the blanks as required.
Most of my mods so far are incognito But the 390`s wont work as I need a ride home & back to pick it up.So it cost me a new couch for the livingroom. But I might have them sneak a set of B&B PRT`s at the same time . Maybe she wont notice! She just doesn`t understand. :steering:  :auto:
Yep, don't tell my wife about the mods. Two checkbooks. She eventually figures it out. After I installed the Magnaflow on the camaro, she got in and commented that it sounded much loader than normal. She couldn't understand why I wanted a new exhaust system that I had been nagging her about. She never figured it. With the vette, she knows I am looking at a few simple mods but they will come slowly.
Wife involved mucho important. When I first started doing track events, I had my wife ride with and then drive the car on the track. I will never forget the s**t eating grin she had on her face after her third on track session. She doesn't have the passion that I do, but she gets it and that is what is important. We have a $500 agreement where we talk about anything more than that. Why I have a lot of little mods. ('04 shocks go on tomorrow)
