Hey all- New to the site (great by the way...lifetime of info to get cAUght up on)...got a question. I was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at about 30mph in my '03 (16K miles) and my World came crashing down. Dealer says thrown rod...and very uncharacteristic. Now, I dono't baby it, but I dang sure don't candy**s it either. Anyone heard of something similar...I've had no other problems before and no inclination of this before it happened? Thanks
That sucks dude. It certainly wasn't caused by downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at 30 mph, or even if you'd gone 3rd to 1st for that matter. Of course, that's assuming a normal, healthy engine. Something else must've been going on
Thanks guys, 'preciate it! Dealer says (3 of them actually) the constant metal on metal noise I had been complaining about coming from the gear shift area (more forward it seems), is actually just the pressure plate and flywheel asembly and more apparent than I'm used to due to the reduced insulation in the Z...this is my first Z and I can't argue, but I have ridden in (2) '02's that didn't make the same noise...sound fishy or does everyone experience the same condition? Service manager's getting tired of my questions...I think he feels I'm nitpicking. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated, again.

you paid $50,000+ for a car- he must have missed the memo
