Default Anyone use cleartastic?

If you use cleartastic paint protection please let me know how you like it and your experiences with it?

Also would like to know if there is a material I could get at Homedepot or some similiar store that is the same type of material? I would like to cut some custom peices for my other cars. Thanks

Cleartastic works very well. For best results apply it at the warmest temp possible. BTW   on the customer service from Ed.

You can make some custom pieces out of 3M Scotchcal (sp?)...only problem is that Scotchcal is not reuseable, Cleartastic can be removed and used again.

:iagree: Ed is runs a great company. I used a set from June to December, then purchased a new set. The original was fine, I just decided to "refresh" after a full detail.

Can your used pieces still be used? If so I am interested in getting them? Thanks

Installation seems to be a key to success with this stuff. Many like it, while others have had it simply blow off or come off while driving through their first rain. Good luck.

So is there anything similiar or identical that I could buy to cut custom pieces out of? Thanks

I haven't found any product comparable to Cleartastics. I have been using it for the past 3 years on a show C-5. the proper way to install the product is to use plenty of water (with a drop of deturgent) on both the car where you are going to apply it and on the cleartastics itself. then use a credit card to remove all of the bubbles and let it dry for approx. 24 hours. you can drive it anywhere including the rain. in fact when it comes time to remove it you have to use your finger nail and catch a corner in order to remove it. clean, wax or do whatever you want in that area and then reinstall it for the best protection for your car. I change the product once a year and before I throw away the old cleartastics I hold it up to a light and thank god that I had the good sense to have used it for the complete show season. P.S this car is a show winner and I don't remove the cleartastics for the show. In fact I have to point it out to the judges in order to show it to them . Good luck and definately buy it before you drive your car next season. WCJ  :auto:

Lots of small pieces around the wheel wells. Its also difficult to get all the bubbles out. I lost every piece with the first steady rain I encountered. One piece (one of the pieces that didn't have any bubbles) blew off at highway speeds without rain.

I opted for Venture tape automotive film (similar to 3M's Cleartastic and clearmask). It has an adhesive and is semi-permanent.

The best product on the market bar none is 3M Scotchcal! It is marketed under various names such as Stongard, X-Pel, Ultrashield and possibly Clearbra. Scotchcal was developed during the Vietnam war and applied to aircraft propeller blades to prevent rock chips . It is a fantastic material! You apply it and leave it on. You wax right over it and your paint. Being clear you don't even know it is on the vette protecting it. My vette has the material all along the rocker panel, wheel wells, front and behind each wheel, and the front nose up to just above the headlights. I used Ultrashield and they have a full guarantee against any rock chips.

I have used Cleartastic for over 3 years and have had only minor issues. Would highly recommend. After seeing some of the marks in the cleartastic material, I am grateful that I had the stuff on!

although the 3M products may be just as good as Cleartastics, what do you do when they get just as mared and beat up as the cleartastics do?? I know what I do, I peel them off and throw them away and go buy another set and reinstall them. No heat guns on my vette, no glue residue to contend with and best of all I don't have to take my car anywhere to install. I can attest to the fact that if the Cleartastics is applied correctly they. absolutely do not blow off or fall off in the rain or on the road. My vette has been up to 145+, cleartastics stayed on and it was caught in a heavy rainstorm last year at Carlisle and guess what, they still were on when I reached NY. If you don't take your time and apply anything right you will have a problem even with the best of products. I don't own the company but I do believe in the product and I also feel that Ed who owns the company will help anyone out who is having problems with his products since he takes his product very seriously. Trigger creep
Its also difficult to get all the bubbles out.
If you use plenty of water air bubbles will not be an issue.
Two other helpful hints: Try using a 50/50 mix of Zaino Z6 and water to apply. OR
Just use a bucket of warm water (and 1-2 drops of soap to flatten out the water)and dunk each piece (like road runner mentioned above) to apply.
I lost every piece with the first steady rain I encountered. One piece (one of the pieces that didn't have any bubbles) blew off at highway speeds without rain.
Speed should not be an issue. We have wind tested up to 160 mph in dry and in wet conditions. Stayed rock solid.

Besides WCJ's post below

I bought a full set of the 'Cleartastic' film protection. Haven't had the courage to install it yet. but it has always been highly rated by the folks who have it ?

Cleartastic also sells a roll of the stuff backed with adhesive, but you have to make your own "molds". It stays on. You can get it off with a heat gun. I'm very happy with it.
