I dropped off my car to the dealer to repair an intermittent passenger side window that sometimes refuses to go down. After keeping the car for 3 days I get a call from my service advisor to pick up the car. I get there and he tells me they could not duplicate the problem. He also told me that GM will not have any of their techs start replacing parts unless they actually duplicate the problem. Well since the window decided to work when I dropped it off the car just sat there for three days. Does this make any sense? Does this mean I have to live with the problem and only hope, that the next time I make an appointment for this problem, it will cooperate and not work for them? On yes, the outside of the car was absolutely filthy, as if it was sitting in the body shop while body work was being performed.
Well my name is Tom and my Z06 did exactly the same thing... Eerie huh? :)
Here's my take, give it time and it will finally fail completely.
My experience was at first, it wouldn't roll down in HOT weather, but once the weather cooled down it would roll down. Finally it just wouldn't move at all.
That's when I took it to the dealer. They replaced the actuator and it works fine now.
I'd make it clear to the dealer that when you buy your next Corvette, you will consider a dealer with a better service department.
It took them less than a day to repair my electric window and they also replaced a horribly misaligned dash which was squeaking like crazy in that time. So it isn't a very tough job.
P.S. Next time you have the problem, take it in and MAKE the service tech come out and view the failure in front of you. An intermittent problem is still a problem.
Please don't misunderstand. I sympathize with you and feel your frustration. Something just like this happened to me before, too. And, also, I'm not a big fan of dealers. I think that most of them--including their service shops--are out to rip you off and do everything they can to decline warranty work. But, if the window worked while it was there, and they could not see the problem, I don't see how we can blame them for not fixing what did not appear to be broken. I suggest that the next time the window starts acting up, don't make an appointment. Just drive down there and drag the guy out and show him right there. That way, they'll have no excuse. As for the dirty car, that's just unacceptable. I would look into working with another dealer just because of that. Good luck.
Intermittent problems suck! I have a belt that squeeks randomly. When I had it in the shop last time there was no squeek at all, the belt was fine, and all the pulleys were fine. It still squeeks randomly, but there's no tell what 's causing it.
I had a similar issue with an intermittant passenger side airbag failure. When it failed I called them up, left the car running and the tech came out to diagnose the problem.
I actually took my Z28 to Autoway in St. Pete and they replaced a clogged fuel filter TWICE in 2 WEEKS under warrenty. For the Camaro, that is WELL over a 1,000 dollar job and trhey really weren't obligated to do this as it wasn't a manufacturer defect. I bought gas right before the car stopped running each time, I filled up at the same station. It was, in my mind, no doubt the gas I got. The guys at Autoway actually treated me very well. This really surprised me because they are the biggest false advertising scum bags locally when it comes to deceptive advertizing. I would check them out. Also, Maher Chevy in St. Pete treated me well, after I threatened to come to theri sales room and tell everyone wanting to buy a car that they do not stand behind their products. They were more than happy to help after that!
