got a valentine radar detector a few weeks ago, works very well. i drive a lot on open freeways, so far it has let me know is plenty of time when trouble is ahead, or behind for that matter. not so impressed with the price of it, but if it saves tickets then it will be worth its weight in gold
It will save you lots of money....except when you get lasered. When your laser warning goes off, it means your speed has already been measured. :steering:
I've had my Valentine 1 for a year now and it has probably already paid for itself many times over!
I also just installed an Escort Laser Shifter to hopefully take care of any other surprises.

Re: valentine one--i'm impressed (gasman29)
Mine saved me a few times. In fact, last week I got pulled over for 70 in a 50. I was late for my hockey game & doing about 85 when it went off suddenly. Hit the brakes but smokey came out to get me anyway. I got out of it though!! :hurray:
Be careful, cops with a gun in a pulse mode is a guaranteed ticket.
Use a cop detected such as unided BCT7 to warn you of any law enforcement nearby.
what is that??? is that where they turn it off and on, becuase i remember one time on 175, it would go off then stop, go off then stop but i knew it was a cop, becuase there is NOTHING to make it go off on that part of 175
Agreed! I have had a V1 for years... put one in my '99 Grand Prix GTX the day I bought it and then put it in the wife's Grand Am GT when I sold the GTX. I bought another V1 before I got the ZO6 and hooked it up at the dealer before I left. Has saved me so many times I have lost count... not to say I haven't been pulled over (LIDAR) but it does give you PLENTY of warning from most other radar out there. Also, for those of us who are not "electronically gifted" you can have your local stereo shop hard wire it for around $20. A friend of mine at Best Buy did it for me... works GREAT!
I got a new V1 for Christmas (from the wife, is she telling me to drive faster? :D )
Hardwired it with some help from a guide on this site, took about 30 minutes, start to finish, including good soldier connections and making everything look really clean.
Awesome unit - the directional thing is absolutely slick, and definitely not a gimmick of any sort. The range, both front and rear seems very very good, and knowing the number of bogies is huge too (one of my regular cruise through areas always has a single alert, the other day it showed 2, sure enough, here comes a radar unit WAY down the road).
I noticed it even picks up pretty good with the radar facing the same way your driving, but stationary ahead of you (bouncing back towards you from the oncoming traffic). Definitely miles ahead of other high end units I've used. I really don't go more than 10 over, and usually keep it in the 6-8 over, but it's nice having a signal to look out and check your speed.
FYI, Valentine just released a really nice hardcase for the V1, holds all the wires, clips, etc. Nice if you move it around between cars and/or pull it down to store it in thefty areas. Available right on the site like always (I'm ordering one very soon).
It picks up crazy far away. In fact I've sped up because I thought it was a false alarm after a couple miles and whatta ya know...there's Smokey. :leaving:
I was driving up by Casitas Lake in the mountain twisties in Ventura Co. when my V1 went crazy - I think it was radar. Drove about another quarter mile around this mountain side and there he was coming right at me. It was Ponchirello, but he had four wheels. He never saw me and neither did I see him until we both made it around the mountain. The V1 is amazing.
I'm much happier with my K-40 and attentive driving. :) The V-1 was not a good fit for me, but it's a great radar for most
How do you like the K-40? I was thinking about adding it to my car along with the V1. I've always wondered if LIDAR can even get our cars from the front if you don't have a front plate on the car, there is nothing to bounce the signal off of from what I understand (they normally shoot headlights). I was caught from behind from an instant-on LIDAR one morning (motorcycle cop hiding in the bushes and waiting for people to drive by, i was the only one to drive by at that time unfortunately), does the K-40 protect you from the rear? Come to think of it, that's a bad thing about the new C6, those headlights are PERFECT LIDAR targets!

Yep, they use a very short pulse and get speed reading. V1 will detect it - but there nothing you can do at this point.
That is why I always have BCT-7 with me. Usually when cops run such a shop they do la license check over the radio every other minute and BCT-7 picks it up from 3-5 miles ahead.

What is a BCT-7?
Uniden BCT-7 scanner and highway patrol detector.
The highway patrol system works in about 30% of the cases - but the scanner comes preprogrammed with all the police and highway patrol freq. and that works great.
