Congratulations on the new car.
Some guys unplug the plug from the solonoid on the transmition and use a resister to fool the computer so they don't get error codes.
I bought a "CAGS" elimonator which is basically the same thing only more expensive(about $30). I didn't know any better at the time. You can buy one at most of the vendors at this site. It's plug and play, just jack the rear end up and zip tie the now unplugged wire. You will still get the light, but you won't be locked out of 2nd.
The other way to get rid of it is to have it programed out of the computer. This routes typically a lot more expensive.
Congratulations and welcome! As they've said above, it is simple to eliminate the Computer Aided Gear Shift feature, put on by Chevy to eliminate you having to pay a gas guzzler tax. Sold by most of the vendors here for about $19-30, it is a CAGS eliminator device. Just jack up the rear, use jack stands, or as I did, back onto a couple car ramps and crawl under. The device goes on the transmission. As mentioned above, the shift light will still come on but the shift can be made at your pleasure. Not sure if the LS-1 edit removes the light. theblackvette will know. :chevy

LS1 Edit DOES remove the light .. I think it allows you to set the conditions for activation to values that can't be reached, preventing the light from illuminating.
Personally I like seeing the light ... it reminds me that I've bypassed their stupid feature. I bought one of the CAGS defeats for about $20. They're all the same, so shop for price. If you choose to do it the Radio Shack way, use a 2.2 K ohm 1/2 watt resistor (don't use 1/4 watt).

Re: Removing 1 to 4 shift??
One of the parameters for CAGS enable is coolant temp. The stock coolant temp value for CAGS enable is 173 degrees. If you watch a car with a stock PCM on a cold morning you will see that until the car warms up you get no CAGS bypass and no CAGS light in the dash.
My LS1Edit flash file has my CAGS enable temp set at 250 degrees. I never get the light anymore.

Re: Removing 1 to 4 shift?? (theblackvette)
However, I cannot confirm if a CAGS defeater installation would remove the light.
It will not. The PCM still thinks it is enabling CAGS so the light will come on. The CAGS light will only stay off if the PCM wants the CAGS sytem disabled.
From what I hear that if you just only want to get rid of the 1 to 4 you can get a CAGS defeat for like 30 bucks or something. The edit is much more money but you also get other goodies in addition to removing the annoyine 1 to 4.
So if you just want to get rid of the 1 to 4 with no other goodies and don't mind the light, the CAGS defeat is definitely the way to go in my opinion.
Hey Flotsam, welcome and congrats on your transportation choice.
2.2 K ohm 1/2 watt resistor - obtain in packs of 6 at the Radio Shack (on Louis Henna on the opposite side of the freeway from Hooters...) expect to shell out about $2.

:iagree:
I installed the bypass first. Light was still active, but shift disabled.
Later used LS1Edit, with a 325 enable. Never bothered to remove the bypass. No light.
I have a CAGS eliminator that I removed from my 02 Z06 (using LS1 edit now). Includes directions. I'll send it to you for $15 shipped if you want.
"Learn the drive the car?"
"Don't waste the money?"
Huh? SHIRLEY YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS?
Hello? Like I don't want to REV my car everytime I drive! I also get caught in traffic jams and school zones. I simply don't want to be bothered with this thing. Therefore, for the price of a half of tank of gas you can get rid of this useless feature on the Corvette.
So everyone who has CAGS should learn to drive there Vette at the range of 15MPH to 19MPH during 21% throttle response. Now there's a value added comment. "No I don't think so" I, or we spent the $20.00 bucks so it never enters the mind again while driving. As a popular comedean once said; Here's your sign!
