Default Cobra to Z switch

Hello guys. New member here. Just purchased an 03 Z with 2200 miles on in. Black/Black. Traded a 03 Cobra vert in on the Z. As I had to travel 300 miles to get it I got a chance to spend some "quality" time with it on the way home. This is a great car and the handling is pretty amazing. I love the cockpit and the electronics. What a difference from the Cobra. Though I loved the Cobras straight line speed (i was 410 RWHP) the handleing left much to be desired. Im looking to take the Z down to Sebring a couple of times a year and am really looking forward to some full throttle twisties.

I have one question at this point. I feel the need for a shorter throw shifter. What brand should I turn to?

Thanks and I look forward to spending some time on this site. Ill get a pic in of the Z when she is sitting in one place long enough to take one!

Congrats and welcome

You think the handling is good now ... wait until you really test it on the track!
As for the shifter, Breathless and Hurst are probably the best choices. Give the stock shifter a chance first though. I initially thought I was going to change to the Breathless, but after some time on the road and track, I've decided I actually like the stock shifter just fine.

Enjoy the new ride and grin :D .

Congrats on the Z!! :hurray:
Lot of opinions on shifters here. :yesnod:
I have a Breathless Perf. & a Mallett. I like them both for different reasons.
Try a couple in person if you can!! :seeya

I made the same swith for the same reasons (but mine was a 1997). I could make the cobra have the power, but It would never have the chassis or balance of a Z. As for shifters I went with the hurst and I love it.

Congratulations! I kept my Cobras but I agree that the Z is the better all around performer. By the way, you seem very familiar to me...hmmm ;)

Congrats on the new ride!! It's been raining all day here, pure torture when you've owned a Z06 for only two days. :cry

I bought mine with a hurst shifter already installed. I like it, but I damn near throw my shoulder out every time I try to get 5th and especially 6th. It has the stiffest spring in it though, if that makes any difference.

Reverse is also a bit tricky to get into.

But there's absolutely no missing third gear. When you're in second, you just ram the thing forward and you don't even have to worry about hitting the gate.

Congrats on the Z, it's a big change from the Cobra huh? Make yourself at home, and keep an eye out...there's a ton of useful info here.

I have had my B&M Ripper for three plus years now. A-OK If you are in the DFW area you can check it out for yourself and decide. Good Hunting

Welcome! I find that most of the people I know have gone with the Hurst. I'm still with the stock one. IMHO there is quite a change with just changing the ****. I went with a chrome MGW.

You can't go wrong with the tired and true HURST.

Glad you're enjoying the balanced performance of your Z. I've said it before there's more to driving then a straight line.

Cheers

Tom
