Have a 2004 Black Z06, got it 10 days ago & when I got home I noticed the right side exhaust tips were lower then the left, took it to the dealer service & they had them adjusted almost even but they ordered a new muffler because the right side tips extended less then the left. The left ones were extended about 2 inches further back then the right. Any ideas why?? Hopefully this will fix the problem. I saw the order, was for a new muffler & gasket.
I took delivery of my '03 Z06 on 10/29/03 and I also noticed a difference between the height and extension of the exhaust tips after driving it for a couple of days. My left tips were lower and slightly more extended than the right ones. I returned to the dealer and they looked at the pipes and couldn't find anything wrong under the car (they even let me get up under the vehicle and look for myself). They ordered a new left side exhaust pipe (the flange is just forward of the rear axle) and when it came in I got to watch while it was installed. Guess What............it mounted EXACTLY like the one that was taken off! Go Figure that one out. I decided to let the shop foreman "tweek" the new pipe and he was able to get them almost even. I'm still not completely satisfied, but we were afraid that if he bent the titanium pipe any more that the exhaust system might develop a rattle or some other unwanted noises. At least the Chevy dealer tried to work with me on it. They offered to take the car to a local muffler shop but I opted to leave well enough alone. Hope yours works out a little better than mine and the pipes end up even and at the same elevation. :chevy
I've got 2600 miles on my new '04 Z and my exhaust tips are not even.
Never have been. I bought my car in Dallas but I live in Houston so I
haven't taken the time or the trouble to return it to the dealer. My
daily driver is an '04 Maxima and my wife drives an '04 E500 Mercedes and it's amazing how much difference there is in the *fit and finish* between the Z and the other two cars. The Z drivers side window leaks air badly and there is even a very noticable paint *run* on the drivers side air dam. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Z but I'm hoping that the C6 engineers will take a few q's from their over seas compardres and *up the ante* on the next generation of America's sports car. Can you imagine a C6 Z06 with the same detail and quality as the MB~? What a ride THAT would be~!!
By the way, I really like the CF. I've learned a ton in the short time I've been a member. Thanks a million to everyone who has been so helpful every time I've asked.
Borla makes a nice straight pipe. If you want to really do some hollering, try the SLP Loudmouths........I think the Borla's are more fitting for the Z06, nasty but nice. :hat
That is almost exactly like mine was, the right was lower & the left extended more. My dealer replaced the muffler assembly on the right & everything is now perfect. Maybe it was the right one on yours that also needed replacement.
IMO crooked exhaust tips are a common thing with the Vettes, new or broken in (maybe a an improper alignment in the bracket from the factory???), especially the Z06s. Due to the torque these cars produce, down the road there is a noticeable "twist" or un-eveness that becomes visable to the eye. I have the Borla Stingers and they went on perfectly straight, but after some driving I have had to adjust them out. Also I was at a local dealership and looked at 3 Z06s, all had uneven tips... :nonod: I guess it boils down to this, do you want straight tips and no torque or a beast with torque and a little exhaust adjustment here and there. :yesnod:
Even tho I do not yet have a Zo6 (maybe someday) I bought a Ti system off an '04 and put it on my '00 hardtop. The irony of it is, I just bolted it on and it came out perfect. Level & even. So maybe it is not the Ti system. It could be the H pipe isnt the same length on each side or something like that. I think the Ti system is a cool piece and like it a lot. If I want more sound later I will follow the experience of some of the Z06 guys and go with hiflow cats and an x-pipe. For now I am tail waggin happy with it. :steering:
