I washed my Z06 the other day ago & what did I find? A stone chip....right in the middle of the passenger side door, so deep, it went through the primer. At first I wanted to :U ........then I realized, my Z06 is dropping in value.........like a rock......Chevy has it correct: Like a Rock. I guess if I didn't drive it & kept in the garage, there would be no stone chip........but....some schmoe on this board says that the value is dropping fast. So, I guess I don't feel so bad about the stone chip now that I know what kind of jalopy I have. Thanks Mr. Kelly Blue Book Wanna Be. :auto:
Made money on one car in my life. It was a 68 Shelby GT 350. Paid $4200.00 and a year or so later sold it $5700.00 Boy did I feel like a hero! Wish I was trying to sell that mother now. I'm still driving the Z like I stole it either way.
I know how much you must hate that. I'm sure sorry. It can ruin a perfectly good day or week for that matter. If not too big, touch-up paint does a decent job. Know what you mean on the 'value' subject too. Only car in my long line of car ownership that appreciated was my '72 Stingray. I paid about $6,000 new and sold it for $10,000 in '81. Those days may be long behind us now. Fix the chip and enjoy the car anyway.

Re: I was gonna puke (Zero00)
I didnt like my first one either... but if I want to enjoy it, its gonna happen... as far as the value.. I had to accept that as well.... its even worse when you add to them... :yesnod:
I drove my car for the first time to work and I have had it for over a year.
When I went to lunch I noticed that the car was covered in white paint dots.
They were spray painting a concrete bridge with some type of concrete paint and the wind blew it into our parking lot and now my car is covered with white dots. They will not come off with wax! :mad :mad :mad :mad
I hope you didn't buy a Z06 thinking you'd make money when you sold it. Cars are for the most part a depreciating investment.
Enjoy your Z06. I'd hate to get a chip on mine too. There will be the day when I do get a chip on it and I'm sure I'll feel terrible but it won't be the end of the world.
Sliderhss, did you try (1) clay (2) taking it a body shop to see if they could use rubbing compound or other magic, or (3) consider painting painting dots on the car (really---you know, like a polka dot car). I would be suing the city or other government agency responsible. I've seen it happen before and almost always, the paintee gets cash or a very nice (expensive) paint job. Your experience would really make me want to :U
It happend on this past Friday and my Z has been parked in my garage since. I have been walking in circles steaming mad. I have heard about the clay bar deal. I guess that is my only option here in Jacksonville. I dont trust any detailers in this town. I want to make sure I dont end up with clear coat scratches. To date I have been using IBIZ wax since day one and it is very non abrasive, my paint still looks showroom new and does not have any clearcoat imperfections anywhere. Although now I dont know what I will end up with.
:jester I was making a joke about the value......someone on this forum started a :nono: rumor or complaint about the decreasing values of Z06's....I could care less about the value, just as many members have. I was being sarcastic........obviously, not everyone understood :D .
The clay bar is used as one of the first steps prior to waxing. :yesnod: After to have shampooed your car, you use a clay bar & lubricant to pick up any foreign materials your car has picked up during tansport or driving. ( Including rice. )When you first start the process the bar will actually grab, feels like rubbing on sandpaper, but you do this until the entire car is smooth as glass. The clay picks up the brake/rail dust, tar etc...and you keep turning the clay bar inside out to obtain a new clean piece. Then you can use a cleansing lotion or prewax cleaner, then start applying your layers of wax. Check out Pinnacles or Autogeeks websites, they show the process as well. It's amazing the results when you take the time and do it right.
Had to get a door on my Avalanche repainted. When I got it back there was overspray everywhere...windows included. I was already too mad at the dealership to have them correct it so I took it home and used claybar to remove all the overspray to include the windows. As mentioned above, it felt like sandpaper as I pulled it across but eventually the finish was smooth as glass. I clayed my vette the day I bought it to get the same glassy feel. just make sure you get ome polish or wax on it before you take it on the open road. Will not harm the clear coat. Good luck.
