I came to a stop on a very up-hill off ramp and as I let out the clutch, the motor died... Starting up again, a smoke smell was evident and I did "gun" some, but I don't believe it was from the ties...I noticed a the same (faint) smell again when I fired the engine up the next day...any ideas of what may have happen?
:lurk: I have experienced something very similar. When I drop off my kid at school, I have to sit in a line of traffic going up a very, very steep hill. It's usually stop and go, stop and go. If I'm not really easy on the glutch, by the time I get to the top, I smell something burning. I always figured that it was my transmission fluid getting more than a little bit hot with the gears doing all of that extra work to fight up the steep hill. But, if anyone knows the real reason/explanation for this, I'd be curious to know. Thanks.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the clutch getting hot. It can have a pungent burning smell sometimes. I noticed it on my car after some hard driving and was concerned, but when I've gone on canyon runs with other C5's, I notice the same exact burning smell coming from everyone's car, so I guess its normal.
Oddly enough, I never noticed the burning smell when I had my car at the race track, and everything was scorching hot then.
