i'm interested-would just changing the shift ****-from the stock one, reduce the shifter height overall?? i would like to change stock "square" **** to something else, an aftermarket one..any advice
thanks
I got the Hurst and love it. I also have the MGW Gripper shift **** and really like it also. I increase in noise was so slight for me that it wasn't even an issue. I read all the posts from many people and was a little worried at first, but once I installed, it wasn't a big deal at all. I did follow the 'jub jub Hurst quiet mod' from the other forum, so I don't know what it would be like to install directly from the Hurst instructions. Good luck!
I cut down the stock shifter by cutting out the large cylinder and rubber damping material. Shifting is great, plus the handle is about 2" lower. Beware, though, that there is some rattle in the shift ****. There was a reason that the designers went to all the trouble to put in the rubber damping material.
I really couldn't decide what to buy since they were all rated really close so I went with the Hurst. But when I opened up the box (mail order) it was a Ripper. Since they were both priced the same I thought I would try it out. Ripper is one of the shortest so it takes a little more effort to shift than stock but nothing you don't get used to after the first day...although reverse is kinda tricky. I really only notice extra noise when I am putting pressure on the ***; like when I am holding on between shifts. No noise problems at cruising speeds. They all will be an improvement over stock.
