Default First mod suggestions.

Guys, I must start by saying that my name is Chris and I am a gearhead.

:D

Now that we have some therapy out of the way, what do you guys recommend for my first mod.
I dont want to get wild with the car. Maybe just a shifter, airbox, and exhaust. Not in that order, but I thought that maybe some of you guys that have tride these things could share your opinions on what mods you liked and what parts you used.
I have been reading through some of the posts on air boxes and man there are so many to choose from. Does anybody have any dyno testing with various setups??
As for the exhaust I would want something thats not too loud. I like the way the stock exhaust sounds, and wouldn't want to get something that is gonna affect how the car sounds at cruise speeds. Again, has anybody tested whats out there on a dyno??

I am a firm believer in just buying parts once and want to buy the best that I can so I dont have any regrets down the road.
:D

Thanks in advance!!!

I think you are going in the right direction. The first mods I always do are the airbox, shifter, and exhaust.

I currently have the Halltech sidewinder as my airbox. The only reason is because I picked it up used for next to nothing. If I were going to buy something new, I'd probably go with the Blackwing.

There are a lot of good shifters out there, but I choose to use the B&M Ripper. It's too stiff for some, but for me it is perfect and I have never missed a shift with it. It's substantially shorter than stock and really prvides good feedback.

Exhaust is a very subjective thing. I'm using the B&B Bullets right now which I find to be outstanding. However, from what you said, they are probably louder than you'll want. If that's the case, my next favorite are the B&B PRT's. Still have a lot of volume, but not obnoxious by any means. the best way to decide on exhaust is just listen to as many different kinds as you can before you buy.

I bought my Z06 with the first 2 mods already installed (Blackwing + Hurst).

So now, I just gotta look for exhaust.

I want the car louder, but not obnoxious (and cop-attracting). Lots of people seem to like Borla Stingers, and they are less expensive anyway. They also weigh less than the stock Ti exhaust (not that a few pounds means much).

There are a few very low cost almost free mods you can do.
1. Lower it. Free.
2. CAGS bypass. 20 cent resistor.

I have the blackwing and B&B bullets. My car dynoed at 369RWHP.
It was running rich and there is more to be had with tuning.
I also added a set of 18" mallett wheels with BFG g-force KD tires.
'04 shocks and 2 piece rotors where the suspension mods I did.OUts
Inside I added the hurst shifter w/flameball and autovation Z06 pedals.
I really like the pedals as the accelerator makes heel toe shifting much easier.
Outside I did the Z06 screens all around and a shorty antenna.
This winter I added the PYFC console and coulnm lock bypass.

I agree that you have the right idea of where to start. As fdupny says, don't forget the CAGS eliminator and lowering the car since both mods are very inexpensive. I wanted the benefit of a ram air so I went with the Vortex air intake system. It does involve modification to the radiator shroud so you might want to think in terms of a blackwing if cutting the shroud does not appeal to you. One other idea may be to collect a few accessory catalogs and study the offerings before deciding and the best of all resources, read about the mods right here on the forum. Good luck and have fun.
