I'm coming home from work 30 minutes ago and a little porsche 914, you know, the ones that weigh 4 pounds is pacing me. He pulls up next to me and smurks. I take the traction control off just in case, The light turns and he hammers it. I get a late start and spin all the way through 2nd and walk him in third. We pull up at the next light and I ask him what the hell he has in it and he says " a little 350". He says the car weighs 1800 lbs. Now if we were on a 1/4 track and I was ready he would have gotten smoked but I was impressed none the less. I've got to get some dough and put some more power in this car. Moral of the story, you never know what your up against.
editors note: This race took place near the great wall of china. No animals were harmed during the typing of this post.  :yesnod:
I have a brother inlaw that had a 914 with a 327 in it.It had a Pantera trans.
Plates read 914 327 . It was in Hot Rod Mag.. :smash:
Glad you came out on top.
Since the 914 came with either the 4 cyclinder or 6 cylinder engines, you might have known better when he smirked. Put yourself in his position, what would you have done or how would you have smirked at the other car.
Always look at exhausts before playing with others and listen for a loping cam. While not fool proof it helps to identify 95% of the contenders in advance. Nearly every quick, modified vehicle has upgraded exhausts not just the tip.
Also just remember there are cars faster than ours out there and be careful.
Well I couldnt listen for a cam because of my straight pipe. Dont get me wrong, I still won. But he was fast. Both he and his buddy were real cool guys, saying they have never heard a vette sound like mine. Nice ending to a long day of work
