Guys, I need your help. My brother snuck a cup of coffee into my Z yesterday morning. I didnt even notice. It was in one of those "travel mugs". He set it on the floor, and when I nailed the gas ... just a llittle  ... the cup went over.
ALL of it went under the passenger seat. I used the detailing rags I keep in the car to soak up the bulk of it, but it's pretty clear that I'm going to need to remove the seat, and do some serious carpet cleaning. So my questions are:
1: I havent even looked yet. Is the seat easy to remove? If not, can someone point out the procedure?
2. What's the best mechanism for cleaning the carpet? Any special tools, shampoo, whatever. I really want to know the best technique.
No, other than bottled water, I don't allow food or drink in either of my vettes. Actual spilling inside the car is a capital crime. My brother awaits sentencing
The seats are easy to remove. There are four bolts, two at the front and two at the rear that hold the seat frame to the floor. Then just unplug the connectors for the power seats and take the seats out. There are also detailed instructions at http://www.vetteessentials.com
Can't help on the best method for cleaning the carpet. I'd probably just use some carpet stain remover on them.
I don't have any suggestions for the resto but I DO feel your pain. Several years ago my brother was helping me move and, to make a long story short, the 27'' Sony TV came crashing out of the wall unit and exploded right there before our very eyes. It wouldn't have been so bad but I hadn't even made the first payment yet~!! Anyhow, everyone was saying, "I bet you felt really bad." My answer was simpy, "Yes, but not as bad as my brother." So, when the sentencing part of your brother's trial commences, please keep in mind, it's easier to replace a car than a brother and please show mercy because that's something we all need.......now and again.
Good luck with your clean-up. I'm sure after all the great advice you get from all the pros on here, it'll look good as new when complete....and you'll still have a brother to enjoy.
Very easy to remove. 4 bolts that are 10mm I think.
The little covers on the front bolts need to be removed.
Pull out the small tab and slide the covers forward.
They do not come right up but must be slid towards the front of the car to get them off. I don't think the Z has power pass seat (mine dosen't anyway).
I would get some hot water and a wet/dry vac and try to get the coffee out that way.
The best thing i ever purchased was a Beseil Green Machine (dont know if i spelled that right) its great on carpet, if u are as **** as i am about my car which u sound like it , its a great friend to have around.
I cant help you much but I do have a short cheer you up story.
Last year my brother bought a new 200miles Frontier its no vette but it does have a supercharger.Anyhow after a couple days he started smelling a fishy smell.Turns out the head salesguy had used it to go fishing and left his fish bag in the back on the floor well I guess the juice leaked out onto the carpet.
Man my brother went nuts. They didnt have another in the color he wanted so he got all new carpets, padding they took the seats out and had em steamed and gave him some 300.00 seat covers. The salesman got fired.
So they say anyhow. I would have taken the hammer to him.
:smash: Atleast no one spilled a bag of raw fish juice in your vette. :flag
Four bolts and a little wiggle will get the seat out. You might one to rent one of the carpet cleaners that have an upolstery cleaning attachment and use that to apply and remove the cleaner. Then clean the leather and use some quality leather treatment on it.
Damn that sucks....I'd go with some carpet shampoo or a steam cleaner to get all of the sugars out. Oh I can just imagine how livid I would be in your position! :cuss :banghead: :leaving:
