Default 04 Shocks

I've seen mention of installing the 04 shocks a couple of times now. What are the advantages over the originals on my 2002? :steering:

Less roll and wheel hop IMO, you will have a stiffer ride over the 01 and 02 shocks.

my experience too......I do recall an earlier post where the driver was not satisfied with them.....said there was a tendency for the front to drift at higher speeds......he also said it may have been an alignment problem, but he decided to revert back to the stock shocks

The 2004 shocks are less bouncy. I think they are just as stiff as the 2003 ones. Just less bounce after you hit a bump. Put em on and lower it an inch and you will be happy. :yesnod: I was.

I agree with J J. I`ve driven a stock 02. My 04 has alot more road feel, and grips like hell !!

I put the '04's on my '02. Less bounce and a harder ride. I also noticed the ride height is increased as well.

I just ordered my 04 ZO6/Z16 shocks from Fred Beans Pontiac. $329.00 shipped, I can't wait to get them. I have an 02 ZO6 that seems the shocks are washed out. :leaving:

I have a 04 Z06 and i rode in my friends 02 Z06 and mine is a fair stiffer when it comes to ride, and mine seems to lauch a little better with a little less wheel hop, in the corners i couldnt really tell a difference because we arent good enough drivers to take full advantage of the better shocks

Hello all,

I'm one of the guys who put them on and took them off again.

CAUTION.

1. stiffer ride for sure. HARD BOUNCE.
2. drifting at high speeds.
3. NOT advised. They seem to go together with a suspension change that occured on the 04 models. 04 shocks with 04 suspension. Everyone is upgrading 01,02,03 to these shocks. ???!!
4.finally, if you still go ahead and do this. BE SURE TO DO A FRONT AND REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT.

Best of luck.
(just trying to save you all the hassle I went thru..!)
Bill.

Good gosh Smook...

1. There's no need for a re-allignment when changing shocks, they won't change the suspension geometry and are a direct replacement.
2. The other '04 changes are negligible compared to the shocks (a front upper control arm bushing chang and a slightly changed rear sway bar mount to compliment the front bushing) The shock is 95% of the improvement.
3. I'm sure the GM engineers that produced sub 8 minute lap times at Nuremburg where trying to slow the car down and makw it handle worse

They'll be my next mod... someone try them, if you don't like them sell them to me.

Do you guys think maybe the new shocks feel stiffer because they're just new? Maybe the '02 shocks felt that way when they were new back in '02?

Is there a different part number?

I changed my 03 shocks with 5oo miles to the 04's. They were a huge improvement. I feel no high speed drift at all.Its very stiff doesnt bounce at all like the 03's did.In my opinion money well spent.
I wonder if Smook had a bad shock or something cause everyone else that has done this swap has been very happy.

'o4 shocks ride stiffer. If you don't track your car, don't bother. They do eliminate the wheel hop when accellerating out of tight bumpy turns.

Good luck.

Well.. I'm back.

Don't think I had a bad shock. Not sure. But I didn't like the changed ride.
It was alot more stiffer! Didn't care for it. As mentioned. I was told by the dealership to do the alignment. And, yes after the alignment I noticed another difference. (in a good way!).

The dealer also mentioned that I was the first z06 owner to try the 04 shocks and after his techs drove the car, they would NOT recommend other owners do the change. Just another $0.02 in the bucket. btw Also this cost me money, buying them, putting them on, taking them off and doing the alignment and selling them on eBay. Just trying to let everyone hear another experience. You can determine if it's worth all the hassle. It wasn't for me.

Bill.

Again, siffer ride all round. I like the original ride better. And I noticed the car sit higher, and even more in the rear.
