Hey all,
I just wanted to introduce myself, I am making my way from the F-body group. I have been a corvette fan for years. I have owned two Camaro SS's in the past and finally after two combat deployments I bought my first vette. I am already all over the net trying to find mods to do, any help would be appreciated. I modded my SSs with basic bolt ons intake, exhaust, ect. I know I want an air intake system just not to sure on which one. Halltech Tunnel looks good but is it worth it (hp wise) even if I dont want to do the Stage 2? I dont want to cut anything. Was looking at the V1B but install looks painful. I know it is all what you want, all have pros and cons. I know these questions have been answered thousands of times so sorry for bringing them up again. Thanks for any help.
Congrats and welcome. To bad you didn't decide on the fastest color (black), but they are "all" fast.
As far as air intakes, many have the VaraRam, but it can be a technical challenge to install. others have the Donaldson Blackwing, which does require cutting your shroud slightly to allow cooler air in. I have the K&N FIPK, which is somewhat similar to the Blackwing and also requires cutting the shroud. Some modification of the "stock" airbox is a good thing, since the LS6 likes to breath.
Headers (Stainless Steel) are another great mod, though more expensive. Again, the LS6 engine likes to breath. There are many choices for "long tube" SS headers and they all give fairly equivalent results. Search the threads here and you'll see a great deal of info on them.
Beyond that, the "skies the limit" or should I say, your pocketbook is the limit.
Congrats on the new Z. You might want to also consider upgrading your shifter. I went for the Hurst and I think it makes the rides more enjoyable. And the VR1B, is a pain, but not that difficult to do. A few members have created a how-to. If you follow their directions, it makes for a not so difficult install.
Congrats and welcom to the family. As others have said, there are countless possibilities for mods. Regarding intakes, many have opted for the cheapest ($free$... other than the cost of a few zip ties) and arguably equivalent HP gains with just the zip-tie mod (search and you'll find many shockingly close results with other intakes and many opinions about this). I did not do the zip tie, but a similar thing by getting the Ecklers modified stock cover that is basically a stock cover with several large holes in it (I didn't want to cut any of my stock parts either). I think it is about $40 and should give similar HP gains for 1/5 the price. I have also gotten a K&N filter which is less restrictive and a smooth coupler. All together this is still about half the cost of an intake and should have similar HP gains as commercial intakes with less cost and very minimal labor. Just my $0.02.
Again, welcome and save the wave...

I have also just recently purchased a Z myself. My previous car was a Firebird Trans Am, so I know how you feel! It is a nice step going to a vette!
Have fun with the mods & the new car!
Thanks for all the replies. My brother just picked up his 04 med red coupe the other day, he was over in Iraq with me and some how talked his wife into selling his 99 coupe for the new one. Now if I can just get my dad to trade in his 02 SS conv we would have vettes all across the way:)
