Last weekend we drove my 02 Z06 to the Bakersfield Corvettes gambler’s classic event in Laughlin NV. The first leg of the trip was about a 4 hour freeway drive through the warm, California central valley, averaging about 75-85mph. When we reached our first destination, at slower speeds in town (when the car is quieter) we could hear the fuel pump was “buzzing”. The car sat overnight and the noise was gone the next morning. We took it to a dealership for a quick fuel filter change before driving the last 4 hour leg of the trip to Laughlin. On arrival, could hear the buzzing sound again.
Drove home a couple days later (across desert in 80-plus degrees temp), and no more problems – noise didn’t return.
Any ideas what the problem is/was? When fuel pumps go out, do they typically display a problem intermittently before dying? The car has 19K miles and has been perfect/no issue until this. I dread taking it in for warranty work because i know they will try to say there is no problem, and that it must be my imagination.
thanks for your help!
