My '01 Z06 with less than 3K miles on it whistles while the engine is running. The dealer says its the air intake manifold and nothing to be concerned about. Well, it's awfully annoying, and I'm considering just having it changed. Anyone else have a similar experience. Something to be concerned about or not??
" TSB # 02-06-01-021: WHISTLE NOISE FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD/THROTTLE BODY
This is a technical service bulletin for repair of this problem, it is not a recall. It covers 2001 Corvettes LS1, LS6 engines.
Some owners may comment on a whistle noise coming from either the intake manifold or the throttle body. The noise is most noticeable between 1100 and 2000 RPM.
This bulletin calls for replacing the intake manifold."
Most owners that I know haven't bothered with this. But if your car is under warranty, you can print the TSB short description and take it and the car to your dealer for a repalcement intake manifold.
My 01 whistled; I left it alone because it didn't affect performance....I tend to subscribe to the law of "unintended consequences." Want to minimize putting my cars under the knife, unless doing so is essential, not elective. Like the operating room, there are always things that can go wrong in the service bay...making matters worse, not better.
But if you have a Corvette tech that you trust, such concerns are reduced.
Finally, my 02 doesn't make that noise. But it makes many other noises that are characteristic of a high performance car.
Yeah, have to agree. I'm very fussy over the car and cringe about leaving it at the dealer for an optional fix. The car is still under waranty, so I have time to ponder. Appreciate the information and thanks for the welcome greetings. :flag
My 99 FRC has the whistle. Does anyone know if they will fix this under warranty. or do I have to buy the new manifold since its not broken? Does anyone know of a place in the Ohio area the that will replace one. the TB says 2001 so does that cover a 99 ??? I had it in the shop allready to find the noise and had to pay for the labor because they couldn't find where it was coming from..Changed pullys belts then I said it does it with the belts off. the reply was "We don't know..........."
