Default Track tonight...

I suck really bad boys-first time ever at any track tonight. Best time was 13.183 @ 111.96 mph. My reaction time is pretty good .586-but too much wheel hop...How'd I get such a high trap and such a crappy time? I've seen guys post 12.4's at 111 mph! :nonod:

or wheelspin. Actually your time is good for your first time out. My first time was worse. So keep at it, its al about seat time. Try and pick up tips from guys around the track and on the forums. goodluck and be safe.

Hey wrstdude:
Not to bad. my first time in my z was 13.2 109mph, I was happy with that. Like the others will tell you it's all about getting used to your new machine. The cars we own are set up for driving not drag racing and real hard launches. Ask "Ranger" he has a link that takes you right to "Z06 Launch Techs" Good info. I'll try again soon and I'm sure my times will be better. But still racing for me is all about fun not the lowest E.T. for the fastest mph. Have fun and be Safe! Hemmerman :flag :flag :flag

The link in my sig is "Z06 Launch Techniques." Couple thousand words on lessons I've learned in many passes in my Z06s.

Please keep in mind that the techniques for launching a traction-limited car and keeping the tires hooked on the shifts are not obvious and require practice. That means seat time. So be patient and have fun.

My first time at the strip in my Z the best I did was 12.8 at about 110. My first few runs were in the 13's. It is a skill that takes time to master that is for sure.

What was the weather & what were your 60' times. Both will affect your times. If you had a lot of wheelspin, your mph will be higher & your et will suffer as well. My first time out I did 13.3,13.2,13.1 all around 113mph or so (I conveniently forgot all about that night). My 60's were 2.2,2.1= :U
My next time was very different. See my sig for the stats. You have to learn to drive these beasts!

It was about 39-40 degrees w/ about a 15 mph headwind-maybe more-brrymnvette was there w/ me-he'll vouch for a pretty crappy night to run. My 60' times were the same as yours, probably a little higher 2.263, 2.286 (horrible!)... :leaving:

That's pretty much what I got in my stock 04. I've prolly done 10+ passes all in lower to mid 13's. Either my 60' times are going to have to improve or I'm going to have to get some stickier rear tires.

what was your trap? I'm still really curious about the correlation of trap speed and E/T. I would think that they would be directly proportional-but obviously they are not...maybe Ranger can chime in and help me out w/ this one-you seem to have the most experience/proven success. Thanks

I had the same results the first time out too... I went out to Sears Point last night a did a 12.80 @ 114 my first run, with a 2.18 60'.

My next run was my fastest at 12.73 but I missed 4th gear and went through at 108, with a 2.09 60' time. So if I hadn't of messed up I think the car would have been through at around 12.5-65 which would have been great.

I only got 3 runs in so I will probably go to Sacramento next time...

How do you miss 4th????? :leaving:

I went to the Corvette challenge in SC and broke 13.0 on my first night of practice but it took 8-10 runs. The next morning I made about 5 passes and had a couple of 12.83's. In the event I set my dial in at 12.80 and busted out with a 12.794. I let off just a little at the end because I saw Emily (I think, 17 y/o out of Tampa, finished runner-up) let up. I was happy that it was my best at least. The whole weekend was a lot of fun and I'm going to go out to the track here in Atlanta soon. It does take seat time. Things happen a lot slower after you get some runs under your belt. Also lower the tire preasure to get more tracktion off the line. I set mine around 25psi that morning and a lot of guys run lower psi. Good luck!

Well every .1 in 60' time reduced isapproximately a .15 reduction in ET. So if you get your 60'time down to say 1.9, that should reduce your ET by approximately .4+ (from 2.2 to 1.9). See where this is going?? Also, where are you shifting at & are you powershifting or not. These factors will effect ET as well.

Thanks Dr.-that explains the ET-what about trap speed? Do I just have a really quick car that made up for a lot of lost time in the 60' ?

Well on my first trip to the track (only owned the car for a week and a half) i ran a 12.81@115.2 with a 2.32 60ft. i hoping to get that in the 12.5-12.6 range with a 2.0-2.1 60ft.....

Sorry to be late in responding. I am on vacation.

ET and trap speed are not directly related. To demonstate the point here are 15 passes I ran in sequence on the same day....

11.568 @ 117.94 on a 1.684 60'
11.651 @ 118.44 on a 1.728 60'
11.755 @ 117.80 on a 1.805 60'
11.707 @ 119.46 on a 1.704 60'
11.640 @ 118.16 on a 1.693 60'
11.715 @ 117.73 on a 1.752 60'
11.700 @ 118.04 on a 1.743 60'
11.778 @ 119.46 on a 1.797 60'
11.748 @ 119.38 on a 1.777 60'
11.726 @ 117.53 on a 1.774 60'
11.719 @ 117.49 on a 1.722 60'
11.742 @ 116.97 on a 1.756 60'
11.763 @ 116.87 on a 1.735 60'
11.766 @ 117.05 on a 1.776 60'
11.786 @ 116.99 on a 1.756 60'

You can have a great trap without a great ET. Depends shifting at highest possible rpm but avoiding the limiter, even on a less than ideal 60'.

Traps are also affected by the density altitude. Better the air, the better the trap speed. My car (with only mod of CAI and DR) has runs some in the 120.XX.

Default Re: Track tonight... (Ranger)

To add to rangers points, Unless you get a good 60ft trapspeed is not a good indication of power. I once trapped 122 mph with headers, gears and vararam but my 60' was around a 1.8-1.9 and et was 12.1. I contribute the high mph to cold air and wheelspin. As your car hooks better and better your 60' will go down, your et will go down, and your trap speed may even go down depending on alot of factors that ranger mentioned. If you can get a great 60' and your trap speed is higher than normal, then your a good driver and your et will reflect it. These are just my observations.
